The most important connection in animal health isn’t between two technology platforms. It’s the pet.

A pet’s health journey touches an entire ecosystem.

Veterinary practices, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, insurers, nutrition providers, specialists, and countless technologies may all hold a piece of the picture.

Today, much of that data lives in separate systems.

But the future of animal health won’t be defined by who can build the biggest closed ecosystem.

It will be defined by how well we can connect the ecosystem that already exists around the pet.

When data can move with the pet, every part of that journey can become more informed, more efficient, and more connected.

The pet is the constant. Our technology should connect around them.

You can’t modernize veterinary prescribing by putting it behind four walls.

Closed ecosystems and walled-off channels may solve one piece of the prescription journey, but they don’t solve the bigger problem.

The future is open, connected, and agnostic. Infrastructure that allows veterinary practices and technology platforms to connect with the pharmacies pet owners already choose.

That’s the vision behind Script Exchange by DAW Systems.

We’re building the connectivity layer to make veterinary prescribing more efficient across the entire ecosystem, not just one corner of it.

One connection. Tens of thousands of pharmacies.

The future of veterinary prescribing is connected.

Some bonds are hard to put into words. 🐾💙

Dogs become part of our families, our routines, and some of our favorite memories. The bond we share with them is also at the heart of why so many people dedicate their lives to advancing animal health and veterinary care.

Today, we celebrate the dogs who make our lives better just by being in them.

❤️ Happy International Dog Day from VetWay. 🐶

Yesterday, we asked what happens to veterinary ePrescribing mandates as the technology barrier disappears.

We took that question a step further.

Our latest article looks at the regulations, the exemptions, and how a more connected veterinary prescribing ecosystem could change the conversation.

What happens to veterinary ePrescribing mandates when the infrastructure finally exists?

⚖️ Illinois already requires controlled substance prescriptions to be sent electronically. But veterinarians were given an exemption.

Why?

One of the challenges has been simple: veterinary medicine has not had the same ePrescribing infrastructure and pharmacy connectivity that exists in human healthcare.

You can't require veterinarians to use technology that isn't widely available to them.

‼️ But that is beginning to change.

Veterinary ePrescribing technology is expanding. Practice software can connect to prescribing platforms.

Veterinary prescriptions can be transmitted electronically to pharmacies. And the infrastructure connecting veterinarians and pharmacies continues to grow.

💡 That raises an interesting question for the industry:

As the technology barrier disappears, will veterinary ePrescribing exemptions eventually disappear with it?

No one knows where regulation goes next. But as the infrastructure continues to develop, the conversation around veterinary ePrescribing may begin to change too.

And that’s a conversation worth watching.

Could peptide therapies help shape the future of veterinary medicine?

As treatment becomes more precise and personalized, prescribing may become more complex too, from specialized medications and compounded formulations to increasingly complex formularies.

The opportunity for veterinary technology is to make that complexity easier to manage.

Our latest article explores the potential of peptide therapies and why the future of medicine will require prescribing technology that evolves alongside it.

More complex medicine shouldn't require more complicated prescribing.

Veterinary Care Is Evolving. Prescribing Infrastructure Needs to Keep Up.

Rhode Island recently became one of the latest states to expand access to veterinary telemedicine, allowing veterinarians to establish a VCPR virtually and prescribe medications under defined conditions.

It’s another sign of how quickly veterinary care is becoming more digital.

As veterinary care evolves, the prescription workflow needs to evolve with it.

Whether care begins in a practice or through a virtual visit, veterinarians need prescribing infrastructure that can securely and seamlessly connect them to the pharmacy their client chooses.

That’s part of what we’re building with VetWay and the Script Exchange Network: interoperable infrastructure designed to connect veterinary prescribing with the broader pharmacy ecosystem.

The future of veterinary care is increasingly connected. The prescription journey needs to be too.

Compounded Prescriptions Are Complex. ePrescribing Doesn’t Have to Be.

The FDA has estimated that veterinarians write more than 11 million prescriptions for compounded animal drugs each year.

From customized strengths and dosage forms to flavors, quantities, expiration dates, and patient-specific requirements, compounded medications can introduce additional complexity into the prescribing process.

At VetWay, we believe the technology should simplify that complexity, not add to it.

Our latest article explores why compounded medications require a different approach to ePrescribing and how VetWay is building a more intuitive way for veterinarians to navigate complex formularies.

Complex prescriptions. Simple prescribing.

11+ million compounded animal drug prescriptions are estimated to be written each year.

Compounded medications are an important part of veterinary medicine, but prescribing them can require navigating additional variables like strength, dosage form, flavor, quantity, expiration dates, and other patient-specific requirements.

At VetWay, we believe that complexity shouldn’t translate into a complicated prescribing experience.

That’s why VetWay ePrescribing is being built to support complex formulary prescribing within a simple, intuitive workflow, giving veterinarians the flexibility to customize a prescription and electronically send it to the appropriate pharmacy.

Complex prescriptions. Simple prescribing.

That’s what veterinary ePrescribing should look like.
