10 years ago I rocked this same pose and took my first overall at a local Utah show. Itโ€™s crazy to think back to those days when I first started competing.

Iโ€™ve said a lot that shifting to fit model has felt nostalgic. Lots of feelings wrapped up in this.. but it been good and healing feeling like Iโ€™m coming back to old parts of myself. Itโ€™s all beautiful. My heart is full ๐Ÿ’–

As a coach one of my biggest goals is teaching clients what the essentials are to achieve what they want to achieve. Most of the time it comes down to basic things being done consistently. And becoming a master of the monotonous especially during certain phases.

The first few days of your period = A time to slow down. This may mean more recovery days or reduced training intensity.

This is something I try to incorporate with my clients and see a lot of benefit from this โ˜๐Ÿผ

If you feel like your energy tanks when your period starts, youโ€™re not โ€œimagining itโ€ and youโ€™re not โ€œweakโ€. Your body is an actually working really hard.

Your body built up a thick, nutrient-rich lining (endometrium) all month in case of pregnancy. When pregnancy doesnโ€™t happen, your body breaks down and sheds that lining โ€” thatโ€™s your period. This process takes energy and creates inflammation.

The first 1โ€“3 days of your menstrual cycle are when:

โ€ข Estrogen and progesterone hit their lowest levels

โ€ข Inflammation and prostaglandins rise (hello cramps and fatigue)

โ€ข Blood loss can dip iron levels, impacting your strength and stamina

โœจThis is a natural time to rest, reduce training intensity (I say 30%), or switch to gentler movement like walking, stretching, or yoga.

Youโ€™re not losing progress, rather youโ€™re working with your cycle instead of against it.

Honoring this phase can actually:

โœจSupport recovery and hormone balance

โœจReduce injury risk

โœจHelp you come back stronger in the follicular phase (your next energy upswing)

Pushing through doesnโ€™t always mean youโ€™re being disciplined, sometimes discipline is letting yourself slow down. I know it can be hard slowing down buts only a few days out of the month and itโ€™s totally worth it! You will feel the difference and your body will thank you ๐Ÿ’—
