It’s important that people understand that asking for help during difficult times is not weakness. As a therapist, I talk often about how society shames people into believing they have to “stay strong” no matter what life throws at them. Those messages keep people isolated, suffering silently, and afraid to reach out because they fear being judged, pitied, or seen as weak.
So me asking my community for support is no different.
To be clear — I was not asking for donations through a GoFundMe. I was asking people to support our small business by purchasing gift cards, services, or products they can actually use for themselves or loved ones. Whether that’s an InHarmony sound session, salt therapy, smudge sticks, or other wellness products from The Rejuvenation Vibe Room, the goal was to bring awareness to our business while helping us recover after a major life event.
Supporting a small business during hardship is not charity. It’s community.
And if someone views asking for support as weakness, that perspective belongs to them — not me. I won’t carry shame for being human, vulnerable, or honest about needing help after life unexpectedly hit hard.
You absolutely do not have to support us. But I also won’t apologize for allowing people the opportunity to.
