What a great day to introduce myself to all the new faces here!

Hey, I’m Melissa! Today does happen to be my 36th birthday... eeekkk. Time is flying.

I am a married to an amazing hubby and we have the most wonderful son.

My journey as a mother along with my work as a postpartum doula set me on this path of supporting families during those first few years after bringing a little one home.

I remember crying in the chair alone with mastitis and a baby that didn’t sleep well. I had no clue what to do except cry.

The thing is, there seems to be pressure that bringing a new baby home should be filled with joy. Yes, there was soooo much joy when our son was born, but this also came with a lot of overwhelming moments. It’s came with exhaustion, confusion, crazy hormones, being unsure of how to manage this new baby and my responsibilities, and much more.

Now I am not saying we as new parents should go around complaining all the time. What I am saying is that it is okay to struggle and admit the struggle as we are all probably right there with you. It is okay to ask for help. It is also okay to want to hide from all of your responsibilities at times.

Back to my birthday! I came downstairs this morning to two beautiful plants and birthday decorations. Kypton brought me waffles in bed! Today I am so thankful for another year and my little family. 😊

Double tap to help me celebrate my birthday!

In all my years as a postpartum doula I have only known one unicorn baby!

I am guessing most of us wish for a unicorn baby though. 😊 Many times you may feel like you are doing something wrong if your baby isn’t like your friends unicorn baby. Or maybe you have that unicorn baby and you are concerned that something is wrong with your baby because they aren’t like other little ones. L I want to assure that you are fine and your baby is perfect either way.

It’s okay to have questions about sleep and what to do to support your little one’s sleep.

Every baby is different. Every baby has different needs. So mama, don’t compare your baby to other babies.

I do remember not knowing what to do when my son was little and I was exhausted so I am here for you. I want to make your journey easier than mine. I want to share all of my knowledge and experiences with you to make your motherhood experience the best it can be.

Have you ever met someone with a unicorn baby? I am jealous of the mama who is blessed with that baby, but I also know if can be hard for them to talk about their baby when other mothers are having a hard time.

Day 15!
We headed back to the Grand Canyon to do some hiking. 😊 The paths were snowy and icy so we needed a little extra traction on our boots.
We hiked just over 3 miles down into the canyon and then climbed 2,300 feet back out. It was amazing to see the canyon from the very top and from deeper down into the canyon.
We started out bundled up thinking we would be cold and slowly removed layers while hiking. My hubby was amazing and carried EVERYTHING (snacks, water, snow pants, coats, etc.)!
There was no better way to spend New Years Day!
Double tap if you love hiking or taking adventurous walks. 😊

Day 14 was what I probably consider my favorite day so far!
We stopped by Red Rocks State Park in Sedona Arizona and visited Devil’s Bridge. The views were stunning. I am just amazed at all the beauty that our earth holds. We decided not to stand in line for over an hour to get a picture standing on top of the bridge. I still like our picture in front of it though. 😊
Next up we headed to the Grand Canyon!!! I have always wanted to visit so I was over the moon. When we arrived there was fog which provided a beautiful experience and it quickly cleared out. It was amazing to see it with and without fog. The whole experience was breathtaking.
We stayed in the Grand Canyon to watch the sunset and it was TOTALLY worth it. 🥰 There was absolutely no other way I would have rather spent New Years Eve. It was with the two people I live the most surrounded by amazing views!
Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon?

Happy New Year to all!
This year has been hard for all. I am ready to put this year behind me and bring in the new one.
I don’t know about you but parenting has been hard this year. Dealing our own emotions and challenges along with our son’s emotions and challenges was a lot. We did a lot of healing and growing this year which is wonderful. I am really just trying to focus on the positive!
I truly believe this year I have learned to parent more consciously. I have learned to be there for my son and support all of the emotions he was dealing with. I feel as though I could write a book about all I learned this year. .
So, this year that felt so alone for my hubby and I with no support also brought growth which we are thankful for.
What is one positive thing from 2020 for you?

Day 12...
Today we started the day with smoothies from my most favorite place . I was so excited to introduce the boys to this amazing place!!
We visited Pinnacle Peak and enjoyed the view from the top.
We loved visiting Papago Park/Hole in the Rock. I am honestly amazed at the size and beauty of this.
Kypton always gets a souvenir on our trips and this time we felt a cactus to bring home was a great fit. He picked out an amazing one!

Day 11! We left Tucson for our next adventure. 😃
On the way we stopped by Picacho Peak State park and hiked on Hunter Trail to climb to the peak. I stopped around 700 feet of elevation as the trail required you to use cables to host yourself up and my wrist wasn’t in good shape for that. I love how Kypton was always there to offer his support during our hike though. 🥰
The boys climbed 1,600 feet to reach the peak. I could barely see them waving at me from the peak. They had an amazing time and a very adventurous hike while I relaxed and waited!
We finished driving to Phoenix and got unpacked and did a little relaxing for the evening. Now on to preparing for more adventures in Phoenix!

Please make it stop!!
It’s day 10 already. We are really enjoying this time on vacation to love on each other, laugh, and make lasting memories.
We enjoyed some exploring at Mt. Lemmon today. The views are breathtaking and there is no way to explain through pictures or words.
I loved watching the boys ride bike through Saguaro National Park. I wish I could have rode, but my wrist still isn’t ready for that. 😕
It was beautiful outside so we tried to soak up every second of sun available. Snuggling in the hammock was a great way to start and end our day. 🥰

Day 8! Wow this is going by so fast. 😭
It was Christmas Day for us. We enjoyed a morning together playing a new card game. We LOVE playing games as a family and play one pretty much everyday of the week.
Next up we headed to Saguaro National Park to do a little exploring. I am amazed at how huge the cactus are.
The boys went on their Christmas Day bike ride while I relaxed in the hammock and did some reading.
We ended the day with a fire and relaxing in the hot tub. 😊
We are loving this warm weather so much!

Day 4... WOW!
Today we were headed to our next adventures in Tucson. On the way I was searching google for national parks and monuments and we realized we could visit one if we added just over 2 hours to our trip.
So... we did it. The route ended up taking us down this winding dirt road around a mountain but it was fun to be spontaneous.
Our destination was Chiricahua National Monument and it was DEFINITELY worth driving out of our way. The hike took us past some amazing rock formations. I highly suggest a visit if you are ever near it. 😊
Pictures and words could never describe the beauty.
We finally ended our day in Tucson much later but we were tired and happy. 😊
Put an emoji below if you love being spontaneous. 🙃
