One donation can save multiple lives!

Every June 14th, World Blood Donor Day is observed as a global tribute to the millions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give others a second chance at life.

It also raises awareness of the ongoing need for regular donations to ensure safe, sufficient and accessible blood supplies.

This year's campaign “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives" reminds us that together, we can help ensure that safe blood is available for everyone, everywhere, whenever it is needed.

Physician's mental health is often put on the back burner as they tend to the health of others. That's why we believe in stepping up for physician mental health, one fun sock at a time! Dartmouth Health residents and fellows participated in Crazysocks4docs Day, an annual celebration that is all about raising awareness for the mental health of physicians globally.🧦💙

Vermont and New Hampshire Nurse Honor Guard members recently visited Dartmouth Health. Through the Nightingale Tribute, they offer an expression of gratitude at the end of a nurse's life, comfort to families and friends, and a celebration of the nurse and their life’s work. We appreciate this dedicated group of nurses who took time out of their day to show us that empathy and compassion unite nurses everywhere.

For breastfeeding parents, finding a private space to pump can be a near-impossible task. At DHMC and many of our other system members, Mamava pods are available for a discreet and quiet pumping option. These pods offer a clean, comfortable, and secure environment with features like a locking door, seating, a shelf, and often power outlets and ventilation. Sessions can be reserved via the Mamava app.

In addition to the pods, DHMC and Dartmouth Health Children's also have a number of private rooms available to visitors to support lactation needs during medical visits.

For further breast feeding support, our Women's Resource Center offers workshops, classes and support groups. Visit the link below for more information.

Our Project SEARCH interns will be graduating in just a few weeks!

Project SEARCH at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is a unique, business-led, one-year school-to-work program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through worksite rotations. The primary goal of the program is for each young adult to build skills that will lead towards competitive employment.

2026 marks the 15th year of Project SEARCH at DHMC. The June 9th ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible journey and achievements of six outstanding interns, hear them reflect on the growth, skills, and confidence they have developed, and recognize the dedicated departments and teams who supported and mentored them along the way. We hope to see you there!

Project SEARCH at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is a collaboration with the HSDVT Schools, Lincoln Street, Inc., HireAbility Vermont, and New Hampshire Vocational Rehab (New Hampshire Department of Education).

Give a pint, help a paw! During the month of May, when you donate blood, platelets, or plasma and share a photo of your pet or mention “Pints for Paws”, a bag of dog or cat food will be donated to the Upper Valley Humane Society, via West Lebanon Feed & Supply.

The DHMC Blood Donor Program shares something in common with our furry friends in animal shelters.
* We constantly need blood donors to replenish our blood supply.
* In animal shelters, there is a constant need to replenish the food supply.

The High Cost of Feeding Shelter Dogs:
* Enormous Volume: Managing a shelter requires a staggering amount of food. For context, a medium-sized shelter with around 150 dogs can easily burn through seventy-two 40-pound bags of kibble every single month.
* The "Diet Consistency" Rule: Shelters try to avoid feeding dogs a random mix of different donated brands. Rapidly switching a dog’s diet can cause severe gastrointestinal distress (diarrhea and vomiting), spreading sickness and increasing the cleaning burden on staff.
* Life-Stage Needs: Shelters cannot use a "one size fits all" feeding plan. Puppies, pregnant or lactating mothers, and senior dogs all require specialized, high-calorie, or easy-to-digest formulas to stay healthy under stress.

Food is More Than Nutrition—It’s Behavioral Therapy:
* Stress Reduction: Shelters are incredibly loud, chaotic, and stressful environments for dogs. Feeding them on a strict, predictable schedule is one of the easiest ways to lower their cortisol (stress) levels.

So please give our Dartmouth Health team a call at 603-653-3775 or schedule an appointment online at the link below. 🐾

Kooper, DHMC volunteer therapy dog, thanks you for the support.

We know that you may be seeing stories about Ebola where you get your news. Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is actively reviewing, reinforcing and adapting our existing special pathogen response processes, which will ensure preparation for the very unlikely possibility of caring for a patient with Ebola or another high-consequence infectious disease.

This includes ongoing coordination across clinical, infection prevention, emergency management, laboratory, and operational teams to ensure readiness for rapid identification, isolation, evaluation, and safe care of patients while protecting staff, patients, and the community.

Dartmouth Health is also working closely with local and national experts, public health agencies, and regional healthcare partners to ensure alignment with the latest guidance and best practices.

DHMC was recently awarded a $500,000 federal grant through the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC) to further strengthen our capabilities as a regional special pathogen treatment center. This work supports advanced training, preparedness planning, and coordination needed to safely care for patients with high-consequence infectious diseases.
