Spotted at the Mid-Continent Public Library!

In 2025, we celebrated our centennial with a special anniversary book: a decade-by-decade journey through the evolution of public health in Jackson County. From the 1925 campaign to examine every school child in the county, to our response to the 2017 Oak Grove tornado, the opioid epidemic, and the fight against COVID-19, this book tells the stories that have shaped our region's health landscape.

Take a look! In addition to MCPL, this book is available on our website: https://bit.ly/4dHQSw7.

This summer, give your teen the facts about s*x ed.

In one evidence-based class, we teach young people the information, skills, and confidence they need to reduce their risk of STIs, HIV, and pregnancy. We also cover what healthy relationships look like, including consent and setting boundaries. The course is FREE for all youth ages 12-18, and meals are provided.

Plus, parents and caregivers receive downloadable resources on navigating sticky conversations together.

We're giving out Red Cards to encourage swapping unsafe choices with healthy plays this summer.

Don't guess! Know your STI status.
In addition to your primary care provider, STI testing is available throughout Jackson County. At JCPH, we offer confidential STI testing for Eastern Jackson County outside Kansas City. If you are a KC resident, we can help point you where to go in your service area. Before visiting, we recommend checking online for appointments and eligibility information.

Don't go out unprepared. Carry protection.
Condoms reduce the risk of many STIs when used correctly every time. With parties and new people in town, a few drinks can lead to ‘we didn’t plan this’. Having protection helps.

This summer, we're giving out free Red Cards to encourage swapping unsafe choices with healthy plays.

- Sick? Stay home.
- Never use alone. Friends carry naloxone.
- Staying outside? Don’t skip water or sunscreen.
- Don’t guess. Know your STI status.
- Tossing trash? Don’t miss the goal!
- Don’t wait. Get ahead on vaccinations.

If you feel sick, stay home or at your lodging and avoid contact with others until you’re feeling better and fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. If you need to go out to seek medical attention, wear a well-fitted mask.

Find more health & safety tips and resource links on our website. Plus, preview our data dashboard that will track healthy points our community scores this summer.

P.S. Want your own Red Cards? Send us a DM/comment or email [email protected]. We'll drop off a stack of cards and an info flyer at your business or organization.

Have you visited Bluebox for free health goods? Did those products come in handy? Tell us about it!

Big or small, each Bluebox story helps us plan and advocate for future machines. Did a first aid kit address a child's playground accident? Do you have a story to share about naloxone saving someone's life? We want to hear it.

Submit your story: https://bit.ly/4tkbyzf
