Falls Rarely Come Without Warning
Your mom crosses the living room and her hand touches the chair, then the counter, then the doorframe. She doesn't notice she's doing it.
We think of a fall as the moment everything changes. But a fall is usually the end of a process, not the beginning. The warning signs tend to show up first:
Reaching for furniture while walking.
Bruises on the shins or arms, with vague explanations.
Skipping the stairs, or a basement laundry room that's stopped being used.
Pausing at the edge of rugs, or shuffling on bathroom tile.
None of these is an emergency on its own. Together, they're worth a conversation with your parent's doctor, and worth a closer look at the daily tasks that carry the most risk.
For families in American Fork and nearby, Amada Senior Care Lehi provides non-medical in-home senior care that can help with walking and mobility support, bathing, dressing, toileting, light housekeeping, meals, and rides to appointments. Caregivers do not provide skilled nursing or medical advice, but they can be a steady arm in the hallway on an ordinary Tuesday.
And if your mom is steady and simply clumsy with the coffee table, we'll tell you that too.
