The board said 210. The scale said 210.8. I have officially submitted an appeal. šŸ˜‚

In April, I put goals on this board to chase before my 35th birthday. Yesterday was the deadline.

I didn’t nail every goal, but I came pretty darn close to the biggest one. More importantly, I’m a long way from the guy who started at 330 pounds.

Now the birthday goals come down and the Christmas goals go up.

124 days. No waiting for January. No perfect plan. Just more better choices I can actually repeat.

What’s one goal you want to hit by Christmas? Put it in the comments so we both have receipts. šŸŽ„

Energy drinks aren’t the best choice.

But ā€œbestā€ wasn’t one of my choices at 7am on a Monday. šŸ˜‚

So I’m giving the first official Better Score:

šŸ˜‹ Enjoyable
ā™»ļø Sustainable
ā¤ļø Feel-goodable

Because I’m done asking whether something is perfectly healthy. I’m more interested in whether it’s better enough to actually stick.

Better > Best.

I honestly wasn’t planning on making one of these posts.

The first few pictures weren’t taken because I was documenting a weight loss journey. They were just… life. Looking back, I realized I hardly had any pictures of myself over the last few years because I was usually the one taking them.

Last January I stepped on the scale and saw 330.

It wasn’t that I suddenly felt unhealthy. That’s actually what made it so easy to keep putting it off. Every time I went to the doctor, they’d basically tell me, ā€œYou’re healthy, you just need to lose some weight.ā€

I felt fine.

But I also knew that being 330 pounds wasn’t something you just coast through forever. I kept thinking about my girls. I want to be able to coach their teams, run around with them, go hiking, play basketball… all the things dads are supposed to do. I also want to grow old with my wife, not spend the second half of my life dealing with problems I could’ve prevented.

I’d tried losing weight before.

Crash diets.
75 Hard.
T25.
Going all in.

I’d make progress, then life would happen. My knees would flare up, my back would go out, work would get crazy, and I’d end up right back where I started.

This time I decided I wasn’t going to build my life around losing weight.

I was going to lose weight by building habits that fit into the life I already had.

Nothing extreme.

Just things I could realistically see myself doing five years from now.

I started in January.

The scale barely moved until April.

Old me would’ve quit because ā€œit wasn’t working.ā€

I’m really glad I didn’t.

This week I weighed in at 215.

115 pounds down.

I’m not posting this because I think I’m finished. I’m posting it because if someone else is sitting where I was last January, I hope this convinces them to stop waiting for the perfect time.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

It just has to be sustainable.
