Most people treat asthma as a lung problem. We treat it as an inflammation problem — and that distinction changes everything about the approach.

70–80% of your immune system lives in your gut. So when gut health is off — from chronic stress, antibiotics, alcohol, or a high-sugar diet — your immune system gets more reactive.

A more reactive immune system, means more inflammation. More inflammation, can mean more airway symptoms.

The good news is that inflammation responds to what you do every day. Foods rich in flavonoids (onions, apple skin, parsley, celery) and anti-inflammatory compounds like turmeric have been shown to help calm an overactive immune response — not as a replacement for your treatment plan, but as part of addressing what's actually driving the flare-ups.

This is the conversation we have with patients every day: not "manage your symptoms forever," but "let's find out why they're happening."

For children and adults with ADHD, the prescription doesn't always start with a pill.

Dr. George Papanicolaou, one of our functional medicine physicians at UltraWellness Center, shares the first thing he addresses with every ADHD patient: lifestyle.

Sleep. Movement. And what's on your plate.

Exercise is Dr. George’s first prescription, but what you eat is just as powerful, because the gut and the brain are in constant conversation.

Nutritious food supports dopamine balance, sustained focus, and steady mood.

Processed sugar and refined carbs leads to brain fog, irritability, and distractibility within the hour.

You don't need a double-blind study to see it. Parents see this every day.

This is why root-cause care for ADHD is so important. It’s a multi-prong approach to treating the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

If chronic congestion, recurring sinus infections, or stubborn allergies keep coming back, it may be a sign that something is continuing to disrupt the normal healing process in your sinuses.

Nasal ozone insufflation is one of the therapies we offer at UltraWellness Center to support sinus and upper respiratory health. It's gentle, non-invasive, quick, and requires no preparation.

At UWC, we don't just treat symptoms, we look at what's driving them. Nasal ozone therapy is one tool in a personalized functional medicine plan designed around you.

If your child has ADHD, conventional medicine is only giving you half the picture.

They will likely just get a diagnosis and a prescription. That's where the conversation ends.

However, at The UltraWellness Center, that's where the conversation begins.

Functional medicine asks the questions conventional care skips: What's this child eating? How much screen time are they getting? What does their genetics look like? What's happening in their home environment? How are they being taught (and parented)?

ADHD isn't a deficit to suppress. It's a brain wired differently, with real gifts that need the right tools to access.

When we understand the full picture, we can build a plan that doesn't just manage behavior in the classroom. It sets a child up to thrive.

🥦 Why is nutrition so important? Food is more than calories, it’s information for your cells.

At The UltraWellness Center, nutrition isn’t an after thought or a handout at the end of your visit. Every patient is guided by a functional nutritionist who looks at:

- Your labs and physiology (blood sugar, inflammation, nutrient status & more)
- Your lifestyle, stress, and environment
- Your beliefs and emotions around food

Our team gets to the root causes behind your symptoms, helps you make sustainable changes, and supports you (not judges you) in your relationship with food.

Functional nutrition care is available virtually 🌎

Hair shedding is a symptom of your body telling you something else is going on.

When we see hair loss at The UltraWellness Center, we don't just treat the follicle — we look at the full picture. Gluten is one of the many variables we investigate, and the connection runs deeper than most people realize.

Here's what the research tells us:

🌾 Gluten can trigger immune responses that damage hair follicles
🧬 It can mimic thyroid tissue — fueling Hashimoto's-related shedding
🚫 Leaky gut blocks absorption of the very nutrients hair growth depends on

The root of your hair loss could be gluten, thyroid dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, or a combination — and specialty testing is the only way to know.

🧠 To get a replay of the Brain Health as You Age conversation with Dr. Todd LePine and Nutrition Director, Maggie Ward visit the comments section.

In this clip, Maggie shares that the gut and your brain are in constant conversation — and the health of one directly shapes the health of the other.

At UWC, we start with the gut first. When a patient comes to us with brain fog, mood changes, or cognitive concerns, the gut is a major player in where we begin our investigation — because inflammation that's originating there can show up somewhere completely different in the body.

In the webinar, they discuss the gut-brain connection as well as specific testing and the functional approach we take at the UltraWellness Center.

☕ Coffee lovers, this one is for you.

In our Brain Health as You Age session, Dr. LePine shared two of his favorite foods for cognitive support – and yes, one of them is good, organic coffee.

In this clip, he explains how caffeine can be protective for the blood–brain barrier, and why the quality of your coffee matters.

"No one ever asked him about his snoring."

One of our patients came to us in his early 50s with an Alzheimer's diagnosis and no genetic risk factors. No clear answers from conventional medicine.

A sleep study revealed untreated sleep apnea. Something that could have been addressed decades earlier.

Sleep isn't the whole picture — but it's a critical piece of it. Your brain has its own cleaning system that runs while you sleep, and when that's compromised, everything else becomes harder to address — including nutrition.

This is the kind of root-cause detective work we do every day at the UltraWellness Center alongside our patients.
