I am Coach Shane Garcia, born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and I am the youngest of three brothers. I went to Otterbein University to play basketball for a year before transferring and earning my degree in Health Promotion, Nutrition, and Exercise Science from The Ohio State University. Besides being a coach at the gym, I am also currently working as a Nutrition Aide at The Ohio State University Medical Center and have experience interning with Ohio State Football and both the men’s and women’s basketball teams as a nutrition intern.
Outside of work, I co-run a basketball event in my hometown called the Toledo Top 64 with my brother, former NBA player Dennis Hopson. The event showcases both girls’ and boys’ high school basketball players from Toledo and the surrounding areas. I also have a 3-year-old pit bull named Cane, whom I rescued from the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
When I am not working, I enjoy reading, walking Cane, cooking, watching sports, and spending time with friends and family. I am a big Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, and Ohio State fan. My middle brother recently had his first child, so I have also been enjoying spending time with my new niece.
I have a strong passion for helping others on their health and fitness journey, and I am excited to continue making an impact through coaching at Bickford Fitness.
