โจ Meet Tayler Hiser-Boarman, PRSS-SUD, PRSS-MH, Case Manager/Peer Recovery Support Specialist with the WVSOM Health SHINE Program โจ
๐น As a critical leader and compassionate member of the SHINE team, what excites you most about this new chapter as WVSOM Health? What opportunities or positive changes are you looking forward to?
โWhat excites me most is the opportunity to build on the strong foundation that SHINE has already created while becoming even more integrated with WVSOM Health. I believe this transition will allow us to strengthen services across the board, improve communication between departments, and make it easier for patients to access the different types of support they need. This also continues our collaboration between clinical care and medical education. I am enthusiastic about the possibility of the work we do helping future providers better understand substance use disorder, recovery, and the importance of treating the whole personโnot simply a diagnosis. The potential to continue breaking down barriers between behavioral health, substance use treatment, primary care, and other areas of healthcare is so important to build upon. When we can look at the whole person rather than just one diagnosis or one need, we can provide more meaningful and effective care.โ
๐น What changes or new resources will help improve the patient experience?
โFor our patients, that means having a larger team that understands that physical health, mental health, substance use, social circumstances, and recovery are all connected. The more effectively we can collaborate and share knowledge, the better equipped we are to provide individualized care and help patients navigate the healthcare system. I am hopeful that this integration will also create opportunities to expand resources and make it easier for patients to get the support they need when they need it. Most importantly, I want our patients to continue feeling heard, respected, and supported throughout their care.โ
๐น What message would you like our patients and community to know as we move forward as WVSOM Health?
โI want our patients and community to know that although this is a time of growth and change for the clinic, the heart of the SHINE Program remains the same. We will continue providing empathetic, individualized, and person-centered care. Our patients are more than a diagnosis or a substance use history. They are peopleโwith families, goals, strengths, challenges, and their own stories that deserve to be heard. We will continue to meet people where they are, listen without judgment, and support them throughout their recovery journey.โ
