Some of the most important work I do for my patients happens completely outside of the appointment room.
A big part of building Northwest Restorative Psychiatry has been intentionally getting to know other providers in our community - learning what they do, who they serve, and how their work might become part of the larger support system my patients need.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with KβLee Kasper, BSN, RN, IBCLC, owner of The Breast Nurse , and this is exactly the kind of connection I mean.
KβLee reached out because mental health is such an important piece of the pregnancy and postpartum journey for the mothers she supports. I was equally excited to learn more about her work, because the women I care for donβt walk into my office as a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. They come in as whole people.
Thatβs the heart of the biopsychosocial approach I use in my practice. Mental health is influenced by what is happening biologically, psychologically, and socially. Physical health matters. Sleep matters. Relationships matter. Parenthood matters. Feeding a new baby matters. Feeling supported matters.
And sometimes supporting someone well means knowing when another trusted professional in our community has expertise that could make a real difference in their life.
KβLee provides evidence-informed prenatal, postpartum, lactation, pumping, bottle-feeding, formula-feeding, and infant-feeding support through in-home and telehealth visits. I loved learning more about the practical, compassionate support she is bringing to families right here in our Valley.
This is what I want healthcare in our community to look like.
Providers knowing providers.
Women supporting women.
Small businesses supporting small businesses.
Sharing knowledge. Building connections. Creating a network of trusted resources around the people we serve.
Because none of us can - or should - be everything for everyone.
But when someone sitting across from us says, βIβm struggling with this,β it is incredibly powerful to be able to say:
βI know someone I trust who may be able to help.β
Community helping community. π€
