6/13/26: Day 2 in a row of migraine. Buckle up for a bit of a read. Yesterday, I used multiple rounds of multiple emergency medications and OTCs to make it through. I had VERY important things to attend to including a graduation celebration for a special girl and a date night with some of our BFFs. Luckily, our BFFs are understanding and supportive people who suggested a change of plans away from live music (😭) and toward a quiet dinner.
I created these images with ChatGPT to try to convey a bit of my experience. I worked out this morning, hydrated, had my coffee, got my shower, got ready to leave for an appointment, and BANG. 💥 Aura, prodrome with black, white, and red zig zag, undulating lines in my right eye. You blink and blink and try to clear it. It just gets more pronounced.
No matter how many times I experience this, it’s frightening. Sometimes meds work. Sometimes they don’t.
After two straight days of fighting it, even when the pain subsides, there is a bone-deep, excruciating exhaustion that sleep, nor rest, nor “taking it easy” will alleviate. I’ve been researching more about the postdrome phase because I have felt it more acutely recently.
Postdrome of migraine is (scientifically backed) like having run a marathon without moving. Your body and brain have survived a neurological storm. You have been stressed to the outer limits. Recovery can take days.
Not everyone experiences the same thing. I’m trying to be more open about my own experiences to bring awareness and understanding.
Today was like having run my 5th marathon this month. That’s the equivalent of a marathon every 2.6 days. IYKYK. If you don’t, I’m incredibly happy for you. I do mean that. I’ve included some links below to helpful articles about migraines if you’d like to learn more.
