Movement Matters More Than Most People Realize
Most of you know I spent almost 9 years working in orthopedics. As a Sports Medicine major with concentrations in Exercise Science and Athletic Training, movement has always been something I'm passionate about because it plays such a huge role in our health, independence, and longevity.
Look at these numbers đ
âĄď¸ Musculoskeletal conditions are the #1 leading cause of disability.
âĄď¸ Nearly 50% of adults are living with a musculoskeletal condition.
âĄď¸ These conditions cost nearly $980 billion annually in healthcare and societal costs.
As a health coach, I've noticed many people know they should move more, but they're not sure where to start. With so much conflicting information online, it's easy to become overwhelmed and end up doing nothing at all.
Trust me when I tell youâjust start where you are.
When my rheumatoid arthritis was at its worst, even basic movements were painful. I needed help getting dressed, getting in and out of the tub, and fixing my hair. I understand what it feels like when movement hurts.
But I've also learned that stiff joints often become even more painful when we stop moving altogether.
You don't need an intense workout program. You don't need fancy equipment.
Start by taking a walk.
Start with gentle stretching.
Start in the pool and simply walk through the water.
Just start.
Small movements today can help preserve your independence tomorrow. â¤ď¸
