Over the last several years, Melissa has worked closely with Jim using the Core3 Method. Focusing on proper breathing, core activation, alignment, and intentional movement patterns to help support his body from the inside out.
What started as a way to manage pain and neurological challenges became something much greater: renewed strength, confidence, independence, and quality of life ✨

“I started private Pilates lessons almost 8 years ago to help me deal with the results of neurological damage discovered the week before, caused by toxic chemo therapy in 1985. My first session, Melissa asked me to raise my toes and I couldn’t find the path to my toes from the brain. I also tripped over my toes when walking and had major balance issues.
Pilates focus on the individual. learning to do release work, stretching, proper breathing has allowed me, a single 74 year old, to live a full life. Gardening. Cleaning my house, being independent due to increased strength, balance and loss of fear of pain; because I know how to release and deal with the pain quickly without drugs. I also watch carefully what I eat.
The complexity of the small movements with breathing and small constant changes of the routines have improved more than my body, which I admit, is in better shape than it’s been since college, but has made my mind sharper as well. Living independently was my goal. It’s sure nice when I run into people from the past who say they can’t believe it’s Jim and repeatedly say “you look great”.
Thanks to Melissa Calmes and Mind Over Body I tell them. Yes, it has taken time but it showed me what I could accomplish, and I’m proud of what I have accomplished.”
