WHAT EXACTLY IS PRP? 🩸
You may have heard of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), but have you ever wondered what it actually is or how it’s prepared?
PRP is a concentrated preparation of platelets derived from a patient’s own blood. Platelets play an important role in the body’s natural response to injury and contain growth factors involved in tissue repair processes.
So, where does the centrifuge come in?
During PRP preparation, a small sample of blood is collected and placed into a centrifuge, which spins the sample to separate its components based on their density. This process allows a platelet-rich portion to be collected and prepared for its intended use.
PRP has been studied and used in a variety of medical and aesthetic applications, although the evidence and expected benefits vary depending on the condition being treated.
At Foster Medical, we offer PRP treatments with an emphasis on understanding each patient’s individual needs, treatment goals, and whether PRP is an appropriate option for their concerns.
The science starts with understanding what’s already in your own blood.
