Can you use your home comfortably with your hands full?

Try it today. Carry a laundry basket, a bag of groceries, or a cup of coffee and a phone through your home. Notice where you pause, shift, or struggle.

🚪 **Doors:** Can you open and close them without putting everything down? Lever handles are much easier than round k***s, and a wider doorway makes a big difference.

🧺 **Places to set things down:** Is there a shelf, bench, or counter near the entry, the laundry area, and the bedroom? A landing spot by the door means fewer awkward balancing acts.

🥫 **Frequently used items:** Are your daily essentials between hip and shoulder height? If you're bending, reaching, or climbing for them, there's room to make life easier.

Small changes now can keep you safe, independent, and comfortable in your home for years to come.

Which part of your routine keeps falling apart?

Maybe it's the morning workout. The meal prep on Sundays. The evening wind-down that turns into scrolling.

When a routine keeps falling apart, the first instinct is usually to blame ourselves.

Telling yourself something like - I'm not disciplined enough or I'm not motivated enough.

But often the plan itself is the problem.

A plan fails when it's built for an ideal day instead of your actual one. It assumes you'll have 45 free minutes, plenty of energy, and no surprises. Then a Monday happens.

You're tired, the schedule runs long, and the plan that needed everything to go right collapses. That's a design problem, not a character flaw.

Here's what making one habit smaller looks like:

The plan: Walk for 30 minutes every morning.

What happens: It works for four days. On day five you're running late and can't fit it in, so you skip it. Then you skip again, and the whole thing quietly ends.

The smaller version: Put on your shoes and walk to the end of the driveway and back.

That's it. It takes about two minutes. On a good day, you'll keep going. On a hard day, you still did it, and the habit stays alive.

A small habit you keep is worth more than a big one you abandon.

So look at the part of your routine that keeps falling apart and ask: Tell me, what would the two-minute version look like?

Sometimes saying it out loud makes it easier to start. ♡

We often talk about wellness as if it depends entirely on motivation and willpower.

But our environment matters, too.

The way a home is arranged can either support our daily routines or make them more difficult.

A functional kitchen can make preparing a nourishing meal feel more manageable. Clear pathways and thoughtfully placed items can encourage movement and independence. Comfortable spaces, appropriate lighting and fewer physical barriers can support rest, safety and confidence.

When the environment creates friction, even simple routines may require more energy. When it supports us, healthier choices and greater independence can become easier.

This is where my backgrounds in health coaching, occupational therapy and aging-in-place naturally connect.

Health coaching looks at habits, routines and goals. Occupational therapy and aging-in-place look at how the environment helps or interferes with the activities that matter. Together, they create a more complete picture of wellness.

Wellness is not only about what your body can do. It is also about how well your surroundings support the life you want to live.

That’s not what we do.

We help people stay independent before it gets to that point.

Think:
• safer home setup
• better strength + balance
• planning ahead instead of reacting

It’s proactive, not reactive.

And honestly… most people don’t even realize it’s an option.
