Attention: Compliance Officers, Facility Managers, and Owners
CMS’s annual survey requirement has changed the Corrective Action Plan (CAP) process. This change is urgent and requires immediate attention from your organization.
Under this new process, facilities must be fully compliant with all applicable standards to receive accreditation. Any non-compliant finding will require a CAP, and facilities will only have two weeks after receiving survey results to submit a complete CAP. Accreditation will not be granted until the CAP is approved.
Accreditation end dates cannot be extended. If a facility is not surveyed in time or does not have enough time to complete and obtain approval of its CAP before its accreditation expires, the facility will no longer be accredited. A lapse in accreditation may also affect Medicare billing privileges.
🔑 Key Takeaways
Facilities must achieve 100% compliance to receive accreditation.
No temporary one year accreditation during CAP review. Facilities remain accredited only until their current cycle’s expiration date.

âś… What You Should Do Now
Share this update with leaders responsible for accreditation readiness and operations.
Review previous survey findings and current compliance status NOW.
Identify gaps and strengthen internal processes so staff can respond quickly.
Use existing ABC resources (including those found in the Accreditation Compliance Kit Resource Pack) to prepare for the survey and CAP process.
đź”” Reminders for Submitting a CAP
Do not submit blank worksheets, templates, or charts. If cited for missing follow-up documentation, submit a completed patient chart (with PHI redacted) showing proper documentation.
Do not submit attestations alone. If documentation of corrections is missing, the CAP will be denied and the facility must reapply.
If you have any questions about these changes or need assistance preparing, please contact the ABC accreditation team. We are here to support you as you prepare for this updated process.
Sincerely,
ABC Accreditation Team

What a load of crap!
I am so tired every time you turn around another new so called compliant rule.
Instead of going after our small organizations that are far more compliant than most. Why don’t they go after all the fraud and corruption going on right in front of them!
It’s a real shame our organizations we pay to be members of do absolutely nothing about this.
Wouldn’t it be great if we all band together and just boycotted Medicare and all of these foolish policies!!!
ABC invites the entire POP community to participate by recognizing and celebrating the many POP professionals improving lives.
