Bunion surgery has come a long way. Boundaries have been tested and found relatively safe to cross. When I trained, we were taught never to shift the head of the 1st metatarsal head more than 1/3-1/2 the width of the shaft.
In this minimally incision bunion surgery video ,the head is shifted to the point where it's barely touching the shaft.
Studies show that that the healing of the MIS bunion surgery has less wound healing complications, faster return to walking and normal shoes but more likelihood of requiring future hardware removal.
Also, it is important to find an experienced surgeon in MIS as studies show it takes a surgeon 20-40 cases to become proficient.

How do you handle your hammer toe/corn and callus?

Tired of Your Toe Hurting in EVERY Shoe?

👞 You try on pair after pair… nothing feels right
❗ That one toe always rubs, stings, or cramps
🛑 You’re told surgery is the only fix
💸 You don’t have the time (or the money) for surgery downtime
😤 Some days it feels like you’d rather go barefoot forever

If you’ve got a hammer toe, this probably sounds way too familiar.

But here’s what most people don’t hear—
You can get real relief WITHOUT rushing into the operating room.

I’ve treated thousands of patients with different types of hammer toes—flexible, rigid, claw, overlapping, you name it.

And while surgery works for some, others do better with simple tools they can wear in their shoes.

Like:

🧦 Soft gel crest pads that lift and support the toe
🧲 Felt corn pads that take pressure off knuckles
🩹 Gel caps that cushion painful tips and tops
👟 Mini sleeves that protect baby toes from rubbing
🔧hammer toe splints or Budin Toe Splints that gently pull raised or overlapping toes back in line (if the toe still bends)

Each device works best depending on your toe’s shape and flexibility.
And yes—some products make things worse if you use the wrong type.

So how do you know which one to try first?

I’ve put together a quick breakdown (and links to my go-to tools) here in this youtube episode:

You don’t have to choose between pain and surgery.

Start with the right tool—and the walk becomes easier.
