Today when I got to the shop, I had a voicemail. That voicemail and the conversation that followed when I returned the call has been bugging me for a few hours. I have tried to keep my professional image somewhat neutral when it comes to politics and things of that nature.
This person said that he would “consider allowing me to tattoo him “if and only if” I remove the “LGBTQ+ friendly” from my yelp page. Now I understand that people have different views. It’s not my job or even my desire to change anyone else’s beliefs. But I can guarantee that demanding me to change mine is not going to work. When I called said person back, I informed them of two things. First I would not be doing any such changes, and secondly I had no desire to work with him.
He continued to talk but I didn’t have any desire to listen to his slurs and hate so I hung up. Now I am not saying that I refuse to tattoo someone whose beliefs differ from my own. But I dont have to put up with disrespect either.
My current shop, and all the shops have operated, it’s a place I want people to feel welcome and safe. I will continue to operate in this way.
