Just a reminder...

Our Serving Lincoln Together initiative is moving into its next chapter, and this time, we're helping our neighbors stay warm!

At Independent Horizons, we believe that everyone has something valuable to contribute to their community. Through Serving Lincoln Together, the individuals we support are discovering the joy of giving back, building connections, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

โค๏ธ Our Next Mission: A Community Coat Drive!

As temperatures begin to drop, we're collecting new and gently used coats to help individuals and families in the Lincoln community who may otherwise go without.

We're inviting our friends, families, local businesses, and neighbors to join us! Have a coat hanging in your closet that you no longer wear? We'd love to help it find a new home.

๐Ÿงฅ What we're collecting: New and gently used coats in all sizes.

๐Ÿ’™ How you can help: Donate a coat, spread the word, or encourage your workplace to get involved!

Coats can be brought to our offices at 1201 O Street Suite 200, Lincoln, NE. 68508.

You may also contact us at (531) 500-4384 and we will be happy to set up a time to come pick up donations you may have.

Thank you for helping us

Thank you to Independent Horizons for stopping by LSO and bringing treat bags to our deputies!

Through Serving Lincoln Together, participants are working to give back to the community, including the first responders who serve Lancaster County every day. We appreciate you thinking of our deputies and taking the time to make their day a little better.

When the Budget Gets Smaller, the Needs Don't Disappear.

Imagine being told tomorrow that your wages are being reduced.

Your bills don't decrease. Groceries don't get cheaper. Your responsibilities don't disappear.

So you make cuts. You work more hours. You experience more stress. And eventually, those financial pressures begin affecting your family and your quality of life.

Now imagine that same financial pressure being placed on an organization responsible for supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

When funding decreases while costs continue to rise, providers may face difficult decisions about staffing, wages, and the services they can offer.

But here's what makes this different.

The people receiving these services did not choose their disabilities. They have done nothing to deserve the challenges they may face.

They deserve safety, dignity, independence, and the opportunity to live meaningful lives.

For many, that requires trained, dependable employees who understand their individual needs.

When funding pressures lead to staffing shortages or service disruptions, it's not just an agency that is affected.

It's someone's home. Someone's health. Someone's independence. Someone's safety.

Nebraska has established protections for individuals with developmental disabilities because their health, safety, and rights matter. Those protections require qualified employees, effective oversight, and adequate resources.

I understand the need for responsible government spending. But we must also consider the human and economic consequences of reducing essential services.

The needs don't disappear when the funding does.

And neither does our responsibility to the people who depend on those services.

๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿงฅ It's Almost SWEATA WEATHA! Help Us Share the Warmth โ€” Fall Coat Drive."๐Ÿงฅ๐Ÿ

And that means it's time to spread a little warmth throughout our community! โค๏ธ

We're excited to kick off Part 2 of our Serve Lincoln Together Project with a Fall Coat Drive!

As the temperatures begin to drop, we want to make sure our Lincoln neighbors have something warm to wrap up in this fall and winter.

๐Ÿงฅ **We're collecting:**

- New and gently used coats for all ages
- Warm jackets and winter outerwear
- Hats, gloves, and scarves

All donations will help support individuals and families in need through People's City Mission and Friendship Home.

At Independent Horizons, we believe serving our community means looking beyond ourselves and finding meaningful ways to make a difference, one act of kindness at a time.

โค๏ธ Have a coat hanging in your closet that you no longer wear? It could be exactly what someone else needs this winter!

Let's come together, Lincoln, and make sure everyone has a little warmth this season!

๐Ÿ Because sweater weather is better when we share the warmth!

All Donations can be dropped at our office at 1201 O Street Suite 200, Lincoln, NE. 68508.

If you want to participate by collecting coats at your business, reach out and we will work out times to come and pick them up to donate.

๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽ‰ THE FINAL DAY OF DSP APPRECIATION WEEK! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’™

What a great week celebrating the incredible Direct Support Professionals who make such a difference every day at Independent Horizons!

Throughout the week, weโ€™ve had the opportunity to spotlight some truly exceptional members of our team who were nominated by their managers for the dedication, compassion, reliability, and heart they bring to their work.

And now itโ€™s time to announce the winner of our DSP Appreciation Week drawing! ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ† CONGRATULATIONS TO Ben Sandman!! ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽ‰

We are so excited to celebrate you and thank you for everything you bring to Independent Horizons and, most importantly, to the people we support! ๐Ÿ’™

But we decided we couldnโ€™t stop with just one prize!

Every person nominated this year was nominated for a reason. Each of our Spotlight DSPs has demonstrated qualities that make them an important part of our team, so all of our runners-up will be receiving a prize as well! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‘

To every DSP at Independent Horizonsโ€”whether you were nominated this year or notโ€”THANK YOU. The work you do matters. The relationships you build matter. The patience, kindness, laughter, encouragement, problem-solving, and care you bring every day matter.

As DSP Appreciation Week comes to an end, we hope you know that our appreciation for you doesnโ€™t end with it. ๐Ÿ’™

Happy DSP Appreciation Week from all of us at Independent Horizons!
