Nebraska Hospital Association The Nebraska Hospital Association is a voluntary membership health care trade association.

To accomplish its mission and serve its members, the NHA has developed a strategic framework that consists of four pillars: advocacy and policy, financial stewardship, quality and safety, and strategic partnerships. To uphold these pillars, the NHA has laid a secure foundation for achieving results comprised of knowledge, communication and member engagement, through which the NHA will provide our members with solid commitment, firm values and assured leadership. The culmination of the efforts of the NHA is to assist our members to continue to be viable hospitals that provide quality care to Nebraska’s patients and communities.

The NHA Leadership Institute is a program designed to develop health care leaders across Nebraska through leadership training, hands-on learning, and peer connections. This week, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our 2026 Leadership Institute class. This group of hardworking health care professionals has dedicated time and effort to growing their skills and preparing to make a lasting impact on their hospitals and the communities they serve.

The Nebraska Hospital Association released the 2026 Medicare Advantage Report ahead of the Medicare open enrollment period, which starts today and runs through December 7. The report highlights the challenges Nebraska patients and hospitals are experiencing with Medicare Advantage plans, including that these beneficiaries are often unaware of or misunderstand key aspects of their plan such as provider network restrictions, prior authorization requirements, or coverage limitations. Services or providers that would be covered under Traditional Medicare are often denied with a Medicare Advantage plan.

Seniors should know the facts about Medicare Advantage and consult with their health care provider before enrolling or switching plans during open enrollment this fall.

Dr. Dan DeFreece, President of CHI Health St. Mary's and NHA Board Member, is a champion for hospital advocacy. As a Nebraska native who grew up in Tecumseh and received his education in Nebraska and Kansas, Dan knows how important rural hospitals and health care providers are to the communities they serve.

Dan serves as Chair of District V and has been a strong voice for issues affecting Nebraska hospitals. From supporting critical workforce initiatives to advocating for the protection of 340B, his work helps protect and strengthen the future of rural health in Nebraska.

In honor of Mental Illness Awareness Week, the NHA is spotlighting the important work Nebraska hospitals are doing to strengthen the accessibility and quality of behavioral health services for their patients.

A shining example of this work, Great Plains Health in North Platte is eliminating obstacles to care by offering same-day access for new patients, online scheduling, and open doors for all existing patients. Specialists also collaborate closely with local schools, probation offices, and local county jails to deliver comprehensive mental health support across the region.
