Perimenopause and menopause can leave you feeling like your body is working against you.

The truth? Your body just needs the right fuel to thrive in this season.

Here are 5 simple, powerful ways to support hormone balance ⬇️

🍗 Prioritize protein — Aim for ~1g per ideal pound of body weight. Protein is key for stable blood sugar, lean muscle, and hormone production. Starting your day with at least 25g of protein is always best!

🥦 Load up on fiber — Shoot for 30g daily. Fiber supports digestion, detoxification, and keeps your microbiome (and hormones) happy.

💧 Hydrate deeply — About 100 oz of water + electrolytes daily to support energy, mood, and cellular health.

🍖 Choose nutrient-dense foods — An animal-based diet provides amino acids and micronutrients your body needs for hormone balance.

🥩 Fuel, don’t restrict — This is not about dieting. It’s about nourishing your body so it has the building blocks to function optimally.

Remember: when you support your body well, your body supports you.

Sometimes you just need to get away with your girlfriends. 💛
To laugh until your stomach hurts.
To scream on the slides.
To let the wind tangle your hair and the sun warm your face.
To be silly. To be spontaneous. To feel like a kid again.

Last weekend at Okoboji was such a good reminder that making time for yourself isn’t selfish — it’s necessary.

Life gets busy. We have lists, responsibilities, schedules, and a million things asking for our attention. But somewhere in all of that, we have to remember to make room for joy, too.

Room to breathe.
Room to laugh.
Room to create memories.
Room to simply be.

So here’s your reminder: call your girls. Take the trip. Ride the slide. Get in the boat. Laugh way too loud. Let your hair blow in the wind. Do something that makes you feel young, free, and completely alive. ✨

Because sometimes the best kind of self-care looks a lot less like slowing down… and a lot more like saying YES to the fun. 💕🌊☀️

So many women come into my office believing their fatigue, their brain fog, their hormone chaos is just "how it is now." That this is what getting older looks like. That this is as good as it gets.

It's not.

The limits you believe about your health become the limits you live with.

When you decide vibrant health is actually possible for you, that belief changes what you're willing to pursue, and what you're willing to settle for.

You are not stuck. You are not too far gone. You are not out of options.

Choosing to believe better is possible for you is the first step toward actually finding it.

Feeling overwhelmed by all the advice on what to do in perimenopause?

The truth: small, low-maintenance habits done daily can make a big difference in how you feel.

Here are some holistic practices you can start today ⬇️

🌿 Morning sunlight – Just 5–10 minutes outside helps reset your circadian rhythm, supporting sleep and hormone balance.

💧 Hydration first – A glass of water before coffee supports energy, digestion, and detox pathways. Bonus: add a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt.

🥗 Protein at every meal – Stabilizes blood sugar, keeps cravings down, and helps maintain lean muscle mass.

🧘‍♀️ Breath breaks – 2–3 minutes of deep breathing lowers cortisol and calms anxiety.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle movement – Walking, stretching, or yoga reduces stiffness and supports circulation.

😴 Evening wind-down – Screens off an hour before bed signals your body it’s time to rest.

You don’t have to overhaul your life. Start with one or two of these simple shifts, consistency is where the magic happens.

👉 Save this list for when you need a reminder that small steps matter.

Have you tried dry brushing?

This simple 2-minute habit is one of my favorite ways to support your body's natural detox pathways and it feels amazing too.

The technique:

1️⃣ Begin at neck, work towards hands & feet, always brushing towards your heart
2️⃣ Spend extra time brushing your neck, armpits, and groin—there are a lot of lymph nodes in these areas
3️⃣ Brush your abdomen and lower back in a clockwise direction

The payoff: better circulation, lymph flow, smoother skin, and even stress relief — all in the few minutes before your shower!

Try it before your next shower and see how your skin feels.

Most women think their ovaries are the only players in the hormone story.

But there’s another hero working behind the scenes: your adrenals.

Your adrenal glands make DHEA — once called the “fountain of youth” hormone. 🧬

Why does this matter?
👉 DHEA is the precursor to estrogen + testosterone.
👉 When your ovaries slow down, your adrenals step in to keep these hormones going.
👉 But if your adrenals are burned out from stress, poor sleep, or nutrient deficiencies, your transition into perimenopause and menopause can feel a whole lot harder.

The good news? You have more control than you think.

Supporting your adrenals = supporting smoother hormone balance.

Here are 5 proven ways to naturally boost your DHEA levels:

1️⃣ Weight resistance training 🏋️‍♀️
2️⃣ Prioritize 8 hours of restorative sleep 😴
3️⃣ Whole-food diet rich in protein + plants 🍎🥦
4️⃣ Cut back on caffeine, alcohol, sugar & processed foods 🚫
5️⃣ Supportive nutrients: B vitamins, zinc, magnesium, Vitamin C + adaptogenic herbs 🌿

This is why I don’t just talk about hormones in isolation. It’s all connected. A healthy adrenal system = a more graceful transition through perimenopause + menopause.

If you’ve been told your symptoms are “just aging,” it might be time to look deeper.

Folate (vitamin B9) is a big deal for energy, mood, and hormone balance and most women aren't getting enough of it from diet alone.

The good news? It's not just leafy greens.

Edamame, lentils, and asparagus all pack a serious folate punch, and even foods like avocado, mango, and oranges add up over the day.

Swipe through and see how your plate stacks up. Small additions here can make a real difference in how you feel.

What's your go-to folate-rich food? Drop it below!

Thinking of starting HRT? Ask yourself this question first.

👉 Am I detoxing estrogen properly?

Here’s why that matters:

- Estrogen (from foods, HRT, or even testosterone pellets) needs to move safely through your detox pathways.
- If it doesn’t, you’re at higher risk for estrogen dominance and hormone-related cancers.
- That’s why I test before recommending hormones. I never want to play with fire when it comes to women’s health.

The truth? Most women can find relief through adrenal support, nutrition, and natural remedies. For the rest, bioidentical hormone therapy can be an option, but never blindly.

My recommendation is that ALL women need to have their estrogen detoxification pathways tested PRIOR to HRT.

✨ Women deserve to feel good at every age. But that doesn’t mean ignoring long-term risks.

When your favorite “better for you” brand gets bought out by Big Food….😩

I have to admit…this one makes me a little sad.

Purely Elizabeth has been one of my favorite granola brands for YEARS. I’ve loved that it was a brand built around real ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, and the idea that healthy food can actually taste GOOD.

I just saw the news: Ferrero Group—the global confectionary giant—has agreed to acquire Purely Elizabeth. 😔

As someone who spends my days encouraging people to eat real food, read labels and choose minimally processed ingredients, I have some strong feelings when smaller “better for you” brands we love become part of massive food conglomerates.

So…rather than just complain, let’s make our own!

THIS one is a keeper!

Maple Cinnamon Grain-Free Granola from Madeline Tague is made with;
✨Almonds
✨Pecans
✨Unsweetened Coconut
✨Sunflower seeds
✨Cinnamon
✨A little pure maple syrup
✨Coconut oil
✨Maple extract

No oats. No long ingredient list. No refined sugar. Just simple, whole food ingredients!

I found this recipe on Mad About Food and I have to give a big shout-out to Madeline Tague for creating such a simple, delicious recipe!

Maybe this is our reminder that sometimes the healthiest choice isn’t finding the “perfect” packaged food…it’s making it ourselves. 💕
