Save-A-Life Day, observed on Thursday, May 21, 2026, is the focal point of National EMS Week. This year's official theme is "Improving Outcomes, Together." The day emphasizes the vital connection between immediate bystander intervention and the lifesaving care delivered by First Responders. It highlights that when the community and first responders collaborate as a cohesive unit, survival rates can improve significantly.

We are incredibly grateful for the relationships we have built through the MEMSA CERP/AED Project. Our partnerships with Project Adam, the American Heart Association, the Missouri CARES Program, and our First Responders have been exceptional. The initiatives being implemented in schools to prepare for cardiac arrest and medical emergencies are truly commendable. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has participated in this important project!

We also want to give a shoutout to Savvik and all our vendors who are working hard to get these AEDs and equipment into schools!

To Our First Responders
Thank you for your courage, skill, and gentle care when treating our youngest and most vulnerable patients. Walking into a chaotic scene to care for a child requires extraordinary heart, patience, and specialized expertise. You do not just provide lifesaving medical intervention; you bring calm, comfort, and reassurance to frightened children and terrified parents when they need it most.

To MO EMSC & Our Pediatric Hospitals
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to pediatric readiness across the state of Missouri. The high-quality training, specialized resources, and education you provide to ensure that our frontline clinicians are always equipped, confident, and prepared for pediatric emergencies save children’s lives every single day.

Tuesday of National EMS Week is designated as Safety Day. Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs) work to improve safety and quality within Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

What is a PSO?
PSOs are federally recognized entities that work with healthcare providers, including EMS, to improve patient safety. They provide a secure environment for collecting, analyzing, and learning from patient safety events to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Did you know that MO EMS and Fire are eligible to participate in the PSO through the Center for Patient Safety at NO COST?

It’s true. Any licensed healthcare provider can participate in a PSO; however, MO EMS agencies and fire departments can participate at no cost through funding from the Ambulance Reimbursement Allowance provider tax program, as administered by the Missouri EMS Agent Corporation.
