Adam Nielsen is the Alzheimer's Impact Movement October Advocate of the Month! Before his Alzheimer's diagnosis, Adam spent his career in media, public service and lobbying on behalf of farmers in his home state of Illinois. Now he's using his skills to advocate for others living with the disease and their care partners.
"It's a lot scarier hiding it than being open. Not talking about it doesn't change the disease." Adam decided early to share his diagnosis publicly. It was just six months after he retired from his job that Adam came to Washington, D.C., for the AIM Advocacy Forum.
He was hardly through Capitol Hill security when a now-retired congressman spotted Adam and recognized him from his lobbying days. Adam has countless stories like this
where members of Congress or their staff recognize him and expect to hear about agriculture. But today he shares his own story and urges those he meets to pass the Alzheimer's Screening and Prevention Act, which would strengthen early detection and diagnosis if signed into law.
