Southern Legacy of Life

Southern Legacy of Life We restore lives through the recovery of organs and tissues!

Southern Legacy of Life (formerly known as ARORA) was established in 1987 to recover organs and tissues for life-saving and life-enhancing transplants. Our mission also includes providing accurate information about the donation process and to encourage Arkansans to register to become organ, tissue and eye donors.

September is National DMV Appreciation Month. ๐Ÿš™ DMV staff are on the front lines asking the donor registration question to customers every day. Nearly 90% of all donor registrations come from the DMV, and may be the only time someone is ever asked the question. We appreciate our DMV offices for helping support our mission of restoring lives.

After the unexpected loss of their 2-year-old son, Ruby and Alejandro Roa made the courageous decision to say yes to donation. Today, Alexander's heart and kidneys continue to give life to three recipients, including a little girl whose family remains connected with the Roas. [5newsonline.com]
Behind every donation is a family making an incredibly courageous decision during one of the hardest moments of their lives. Their generosity transforms grief into hope and creates a lasting legacy. While their loss will always be immeasurable, Alexander's legacy lives on through the lives he saved. Stories like Alexander's remind us why organ donation matters so deeply. One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation, and tissue donation can help more than 75 people heal, regain sight, recover from burns, and experience a better quality of life. ๐Ÿ’š
To the Roa family and all donor families: thank you for saying "yes" to life. Your loved ones are forever remembered, and their gifts continue to make a difference every day.

More than 30,000 African American, and about 22,000 Hispanic and Latino, patients are waiting for organ transplants. In fact, 60% of people on the national transplant waiting list are people of color. For National Multicultural Donor Awareness month, SLL strives to increase the diversity of organ and tissue donors, and improve access to transplants in communities of color. Raphael's story is a beautiful reminder that one gift can change another person's future. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š
Through tissue donation, Raphael helped improve the life of a young girl named Abigail, giving her the opportunity to get back to doing what she loves most; playing volleyball. ๐Ÿ
While Marquisha continues to honor her son's legacy, Abigail's journey is a powerful example of how tissue donation can restore mobility, healing, and hope.

Sixty percent of people on the national transplant waiting list are minorities, but only about 30% are organ donors. While people of different races frequently match one another, compatible blood types and tissue markers are critical qualities for matches, and are often found in people of the same background. Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s vital the number of registered minority organ donors improves. Learn more and register today at WeRestoreLives.org
