Today’s staff meeting looked a little different…

This is 100% why so many of our clients with chronic tendon pain had given up out of frustration before finding us to help guide their rehab process.

Tendinopathies and the boom-bust cycle.

You have a spike in activity over the course of a day, week, or month that contributes to an increase in symptoms. You decide to rest completely and your symptoms go away. Excellent! You recognize that you overdid it last time, so you don’t do quite as much this time around. However, you have a flare-up despite doing less of the same activity! You rest again until your pain goes away and repeat this process until your activity level is severely diminished.

This is not an uncommon cycle. It’s often driven by the belief that pain is bad and rest is good, while also using a reduction in pain as the primary metric for success.

But that’s not the way to approach tendinopathy because rehab can take 3 months, 6 months, or even a year or longer. Symptoms will fluctuate on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis, which is why your focus should be on function while monitoring pain to guide the appropriate amount of physical activity.

An increase in function will not always correlate with a linear decrease in pain. If you go from running 1 mile with a 3/10 pain to running 3 miles with a 3/10 pain over the course of 3 months, that’s actually significant progress. The pain may seem like it’s staying the same, but technically it’s getting better because it requires more activity to reach the same level of pain that you initially experienced.

Well we finally got to 100 Google Reviews!

About 2 years ago I borrowed my Mother In Laws Reiki Table that she had lying around her basement and set it up in the middle of crossfit gym near a small concrete closet to store some supplies.

Quick.Back.Story:

We had just moved back home to raise our first boy near his grandparents and I had just left my 8 year career as an Army medical officer. I was, for a lack of a better word, LOST.

Don’t get me wrong, 6am formations and months in the field without a shower and plumbing weren’t the best…BUT I Ioved being a PT in the Army.🫡

I was able to contribute to a larger mission, to help soldiers who needed to get back in the fight to do their jobs and serve their country. It was HARD but 100% AWESOME!

I had a vision for a private practice that operated similar to the way I did while on active duty, autonomous, mission driven, patient-centered and not dependent on insurance guidelines for decision making.

I needed to overcome my fears of failing as an entrepreneur and to start my own business, to write my own next chapter.

So…R3 Physio was born…so I could face my fears and so I could continue to deliver my passion and knowledge of injury rehab to my community.

Thanks to all of you who trust us to help write your comeback story! You’re the reason this business is thriving and we cannot thank you enough.

1. 3-4 minute moderate-hard Row to get the legs and back WARM!
2. 2 sets of 10 of these “babymaker twists” to get the hips and back LOOSE.
3. Two sets of 8-10 TEMPO Squats (2 seconds down, 2 second pause, 1 second UP)
