This picture was taken when we were making one of the original test batches of our Mary Mix.

At the time, we were trying to make one thing: a really good Bloody Mary mix.

We had absolutely no idea we were also making an awesome chili base. 😂

Somewhere along the way, we discovered that a bottle of Ultimate Mary Mix and a few simple ingredients in a crock pot make one heck of a pot of chili. No measuring out a cabinet full of spices. Just pour it in and let it do its thing. It's one of our most popular demo items when we are sampling it around town!

And since chili season has officially arrived, it seemed like a good time to pull this old picture out of the archives.

Funny how some of the best uses for our products are the ones we never planned.

The Pickle Truck is getting another makeover. 🥒🚚

This truck has been in Greg's family since his dad bought it brand new in the '80s. Greg eventually inherited it, had it redone as his boys grew up and learned to drive... and let's just say none of them fully appreciated the privilege of driving an old '80s pickup. 😂

When Tru Pickles came along, the truck found its calling: hauling pickles.

Then one year at Littleton's Western Welcome Week, Greg had a roll of old Kosher Dill labels we couldn't use anymore and one of those ideas that probably shouldn't be encouraged.

He let the kids plaster them all over the truck.

And that was that. The Pickle Truck was born.

It became a familiar sight around town delivering pickles—and also a pretty reliable way to get stared at everywhere we went.

Eventually the labels started wearing off, so we scraped them all away and painted the truck with tinted truck-bed liner in a shade we very professionally named “screamin' ass green.” 🤣

Naturally, grape leaves came next.

That version has been rolling around town for years, but lately she's been looking a little tired.

Enter an artist who's never painted a vehicle before but really wanted to.

Greg's response was basically:

“Here's a canvas. Do something fun.”

So... that's where we are. 😂

We don't actually know exactly what the finished Pickle Truck is going to look like yet.

And that's half the fun.

Fifteen years ago, a woman looked at us and said, "I can't sell pickles in a hardware store."

Her name is Mrs. Lucille Bevans, and she owns the local Littleton Ace Hardware store we walked into one day on a whim. We had just started Tru Pickles and were pounding the pavement, looking for anyone willing to put our jars on a shelf. Aside from candy bars and beef jerky, hardware stores didn't exactly scream "food destination." But Greg asked her to just give it a shot — if they don't sell, he'd come back and take them. No risk to her.

She was game.

A couple of days later, she called asking for more cases — and could we bring some to her daughter's store too? Within a couple of months, we were in about 26 local Ace Hardware locations. Then came the invitation to their Fall 2011 national convention, where we got to put Tru Pickles in front of retailers from across the country.

The reactions were priceless. Skeptical looks. "Pickles in a HARDWARE STORE??" And then — the ones who said, "Hey, we'll try it." Next thing we knew, our pickles were being stocked in Ace warehouses nationwide. Our slogan, "Taste The Craze," had never felt more fitting.

Every year after that, we'd run into retailers who loved telling us how crazy they thought we were — and how well it worked.

Fifteen years later, we're still selling pickles at Ace Hardware. And Ace has grown an entire section dedicated to specialty foods — jams, sauces, and yes, pickles. All because one woman was willing to give a couple of strangers and their jars of pickles a chance.

We'll always be grateful to Mrs. Bevans, and the hardware store that started it all. Ace Hardware has been an incredible partner — full of amazing, fun, and innovative people every step of the way.

Ace is Tru-ly the Place. Thank you, Mrs. Bevans, for taking that chance 15 years ago! 🥒🙏
