Our wonderful Postpartum, Grammie Doula, Laura is retiring from postpartum doula work! We know our local families will miss her in this capacity.
Laura will continue to help new moms with postpartum planning, and talking about their birth experiences (and she will be listed on our website as doing such).

It's time to celebrate our July anniversary!

This month we Celebrate Karah. She has been with our team since July 2025. And we have loved having her as one of our Postpartum Doulas. She owns Nurture Postpartum Care.

A little bit about Karah:

❤️ An update on joining our Upper Cumberland Doula Collective ❤️

As our collective continues to grow, we're updating our membership requirements to help ensure that every doula representing our collective has a strong foundation of experience and is prepared to support families in the birth settings we serve.

Beginning with new applicants, membership will require:
🤍 Attendance at a minimum of 5 Births as the primary birth doula.
🤍 If those births have all been home births, applicants will also need to have attended at least 2 births in the hospital setting.

This isn't because one birth setting is "better" than another. Home births and hospital births each come with unique dynamics, and we believe it's important for our members to have well-rounded experience when serving families throughout the Upper Cumberland.

If you're a newer doula, please don't be discouraged! Every experienced doula started with their very first birth, and at UCDC, we are passionate about helping new doulas grow. If you're working toward these requirements, we'd still love to connect and encourage you along the way.

I have a request. Could you help shape the next generation of Birth Doulas?

As many of you know, I mentor new Doulas in the Cookeville, and surrounding areas. As part of my mentoring, I hope to have them be able to shadow me at births.

So...

I'm looking for 2-3 families due starting in January 2027 who would be open to having a training Doula shadow me at their birth.

What does that mean for you, as the client?

* I remain your primary doula from beginning to end.
* The training doula is there to quietly observe, learn, and assist me when appropriate.
* Your comfort, privacy, and birth preferences always come first.
* You can change your mind at any point, even during labor.

As a Doula mentor I believe it's important to train the new generation of Doulas through lived experiences, alongside experienced Doulas. By allowing training Doulas at your birth, you're helping prepare more Doulas to confidently support future families in our community.
