🌿 JEWELWEED SOAP RECIPE 🧼
Jewelweed soap is a traditional remedy best known for preventing and soothing rashes caused by poison ivy, poison oak, and sumac. It works by washing away the plant's irritating oils (urushiol) while the plant's natural anti-inflammatory compounds help calm the skin and reduce the urge to itch.
🦟 It is best to use jewelweed soap as soon as exposure occurs, but is still beneficial afterwards for calming inflammation. It can also be used for other irritating skin issues such as bug bites, hives, bee stings, burns from stinging nettles, chiggers and dermatitis.

EQUIPMENT
1 large glass bowl
1 kitchen scale
1 large spoon
1 large stainless steel pot
1 lazer thermometer
1 2lb soap mold
1 fine cheesecloth & strainer
INGREDIENTS
14 ounces Tallow or Lard
5 ounces Coconut Oil
7 ounces Olive Oil
3.6 ounces Lye
10 ounces water
0.75 ounces Camphor Essential Oil (or any essential oil of choice)
Enough fresh jewelweed to infuse the oils and water.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Combine tallow, coconut oil, and olive oil. Heat over medium low heat to melt oils. Add a few handfuls of fresh jewelweed that is crushed with your hands and allow to cool to 90⁰ F. In the meantime, also make jewelweed tea with the water and allow it to cool. Your oil and tea will become a bright green color but unfortunately this doesn’t last in the soap. At this point, using your cheesecloth, strain out your oil and water mixtures separately, and discard the jewelweed.
2. With gloves, goggles, and mask, weigh lye in a plastic zip close bag. Take lye and jewelweed water outside to mix as it will produce noxious fumes. Add lye to the water (not the other way around) and stir until dissolved. The water may change color from the herbs. This is normal and will not effect the soap. Allow the lye water to cool to 90⁰ F.
3. Once the lye water has cooled to 90°, add it slowly to oils and mix with a hand mixer until light trace (fully emulsified, that transforms from an oily liquid into a thicker batter). At this stage add any essential oils then blend again.
4. Pour into a prepared mold and insulate for 24 hours before removing and cutting. Allow your soap to cure for 3-4 weeks before using.
