💗 Today is International Day of the Girl!
Here’s what we believe every girl deserves:
💕 To understand her body without embarrassment.
💕 To ask questions without shame.
💕 To know that her voice matters and her boundaries deserve respect.
💕 To feel confident being exactly who she is.
💕 To have the knowledge and tools to navigate growing up.

NEW Turning Teen workshop! 📱🧠

If screens have become a constant source of negotiation, frustration, or “just five more minutes!” in your house… you are definitely not alone.

We’re so excited to introduce Breaking Screen Addiction, a brand-new Turning Teen workshop for parents and educators of kids ages 7–12, led by Jodi Tesser, MA CCC-SLP.
Jodi has spent more than a decade studying how screens affect children’s attention, communication, emotional regulation, and development—and, even more importantly, how families can create healthier habits without making screens a constant battle.

This practical workshop will give you realistic strategies for setting boundaries, understanding why developing brains have such a hard time putting technology down, and helping kids find more balance through connection, movement, play, and real-world experiences.

Because screens aren’t going anywhere. Our job is to teach kids how to live well with them. 💜

🗓️ Two live workshop options:
October 21 at 11 AM EST
November 9 at 7 PM EST

We teach consent in our programs - to young kids and to teens. We all need to take the time to review details about consent with our kids.

    •   Consent must be freely given. No pressure, guilt, threats, begging, manipulation, or “Come on, everyone else is doing it.”

    •    You can change your mind at ANY time. Saying yes to something earlier does not mean you have to continue.

    •    Consent is specific. Saying yes to one thing does not mean yes to something else.

•    Consent is needed every time. Having done something together before doesn’t automatically mean consent today.

•    Silence is not consent. Freezing, not resisting, or “not saying no” is not the same as agreeing. Someone who is asleep or unconscious cannot consent.

    •    Consent should be clear. If you’re unsure whether someone wants to participate, stop and ask.

    •    Someone who is significantly impaired by alcohol or drugs cannot give valid consent.

    •    Consent can’t come from fear. A “yes” given because someone feels unsafe saying “no” isn’t freely given.

    •    Your boundaries matter even if the other person is disappointed. You never owe someone physical or sexual contact because they bought you something, took you on a date, are your boyfriend/girlfriend, or because you previously said yes.

Consent isn’t just about getting a “yes.” It’s about making sure the other person feels comfortable saying “no.”

My sweet little neighbor is 4. She calls me “Dr. Lisa,” comes over to visit, makes up rhymes with me, and is still gloriously, wonderfully carefree.

She isn’t worried about whether her body is the “right” size or shape.
She doesn’t think twice about how she looks in a bathing suit.
She doesn’t know that puberty can feel awkward, or that someday she might compare herself to everyone she sees on a screen.

And I wish I could keep it that way.

But since I can’t, I hope I can teach her something better.

I hope she grows up knowing that her body is hers.

That every body grows differently.

That taking care of her body is an act of respect, not a quest to make it perfect.

That she gets to set boundaries.

That she can ask questions—even the uncomfortable ones.

And that there will always be a Dr. Lisa next door who will answer them. 💗

Maybe that’s really the heart of Turning Teen: teaching kids what we wish someone had taught us sooner

P.S. To her amazing mama - she is so lucky to have you. You are present and incredible with her.

Looks like entrepreneurship runs in the family! 💡 Dr. Sonia’s daughter spent the day selling her handmade Squishies & Soaps at Kids Markets — and we love seeing Dr. Sonia right there supporting her budding entrepreneur. 🩵👏

So fun watching kids turn their creativity into something of their own!

Have your kids shown interest in something like this? Here at Turning Teen we think these are incredible life skills to support!!!

Puberty isn’t waiting until middle school anymore. 👀

Girls today are getting their first periods earlier and the changes of puberty start well before that first period.

Why❓There’s no single answer. Genetics, body composition, nutrition, environmental exposures, stress, sleep and other factors may all play a role.

The takeaway isn’t to panic about earlier puberty. It’s to prepare for it earlier.

Explain what puberty is BEFORE it starts.
Because when it comes to puberty education, earlier is better. 💗

Nashville, a 21st birthday, an opossum anatomy lesson 😂… and 30 daughters. 💗

This one is really about starting the conversations early—because the little talks become the foundation for the bigger conversations later.
