Healthcare Should Still Be Personal!
A note from Lorrie ❤️🩺

I’ve had something on my mind lately.

Like many people, I’ve been following the Lindsay Clancy case. Hearing discussions about the number of psychiatric visits she reportedly had… and how much of her care occurred through telehealth… has made me think deeply about where healthcare is headed.

This isn’t really a post about one case. It’s about something much bigger.

I believe we have swung too far toward making healthcare “easy.”

There is absolutely a place for technology in medicine. There are times when telehealth is appropriate and helpful. But there is also something incredibly important about sitting in the same room with your healthcare provider.

You know Allan's my better half and while I tune him out a lot, I've never been able to tune out this .... Your provider needs to see you. Talk to you. Listen to you. Watch you walk into the room. Notice your breathing, your expression, your skin color, your demeanor. Put a stethoscope on your chest. Touch the area that hurts. Ask another question because something you said—or something you didn’t say—doesn’t quite add up.

Those things matter.

Allan has said so many times that sometimes what leads us to the right diagnosis isn’t the reason you made the appointment. It’s something we notice while you’re sitting in front of us.

Healthcare is increasingly being shaped by insurance companies, large corporations, technology companies and venture capital. The emphasis is often on faster, easier, cheaper and more scalable.

But good medicine doesn’t always fit neatly into those goals.

Healthcare is not always fast. It is not always easy. And it shouldn’t be reduced to a transaction.

At Family Health, we are locally owned and locally operated. The people taking care of you live in the same communities you do. Your provider may be your neighbor, sit beside you at a ballgame, shop at the same grocery store or have children who attend school with yours.

We believe that relationship still matters.

We also believe in convenience. That’s why we’re open seven days a week with extended hours. We want you to be able to get care when you need it.

But we will never define “convenient healthcare” as simply doing whatever is fastest.

Sometimes good healthcare means coming into the office. Sometimes it means waiting while your provider spends a little longer with the patient ahead of you because that patient needed it. And someday, you may be the patient who needs those extra few minutes.

We have never promised to be the fastest healthcare.

We have never promised that healthcare would always be easy.

What we promise is that we will continue to believe in real medicine, real relationships and taking care of the person sitting in front of us.

Technology will continue to change healthcare. Some of those changes will be wonderful.

But at Family Health, we don’t intend to let technology… or anyone else’s business model… replace the human connection at the heart of medicine.

You deserve to be seen. You deserve to be heard. And when you need medical care, you deserve a healthcare provider who is truly present.

❤️ Our FHC Family Is Asking Our Community for Help ❤️

Family Health Clinic has had a long-standing partnership with Henry County Fire & Rescue, and over the years, we have been fortunate to work alongside some truly incredible members of their team. Some even serve our community in both roles — working part-time with FHC while also answering the call with Fire & Rescue.

Today, we are asking our community to help us show up for one of their own.

After an incredible 31 years of service with Henry County Fire & Rescue, Kevin recently retired from a career dedicated to helping and saving others. Not long after his retirement, Kevin became ill and was diagnosed with leukemia.

He is now in need of platelet donors.

Kevin has personally given us permission to share his story and the attached flyer in hopes of reaching as many potential donors as possible.

For 31 years, Kevin answered the call when people in our community needed help.

Now it's our turn to answer the call for him. ❤️

If you are able to donate platelets, please consider donating for Kevin. The attached flyer contains information from Atlanta Blood Services regarding platelet donation, donor requirements, locations, and how to get started.

And if you aren't able to donate, please share this post. You never know who in your circle may be able to help.

🩸 Donate if you can. Share if you can. Let's show Kevin the same kind of support he spent 31 years giving to our community.

Please keep Kevin and his family in your thoughts as he fights leukemia. ❤️
