Clinical Research Summary | Compulsive S*xual Behavior
Rumpf and colleagues examined the prevalence of Compulsive S*xual Behavior Disorder using ICD-11 criteria in a large probability-based German sample of 4,633 adults.
The study found that 4.9% of men reported experiences consistent with lifetime ICD-11 CSBD requirements. Past-year estimates were lower, at 3.2% for men.
Importantly, CSBD is not defined simply by frequency of sexual activity. The diagnostic framework focuses on persistent patterns of impaired control over intense, repetitive sexual impulses or urges, together with associated distress or impairment.
These findings highlight why clinical assessment needs to distinguish between high sexual interest and clinically significant compulsive sexual behavior.
