Location: Huntington Beach, CA, Long Beach, CA, and Torrance, CA
We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NPPA).
The NPPA is responsible for practicing medicine with physician supervision including conducting examinations and writing prescriptions. Within physician–NPPA relationship, NPPA’s exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Other Responsibilities/Expectations/Standards:
· Conducts physical exams, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treats illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds. Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of an NPPA’s scope of work.
· Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
· Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
· Documents patient information and care in the medical record and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.
· Makes medical diagnoses and institute therapy or referrals of patients to the appropriate health care facilities, agencies, other resources of the community, or other physicians.
· Informs and describes treatment plans with patients, discusses diagnoses, provides counseling to patients and family members, promotes wellness and health maintenance.
· Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
· Communicates with patients by telephone including answering patient questions and concerns according to protocol, discussing medication refills, further work-up, and discussing results of lab studies or x-rays.
· Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsy and accessing Omaya reservoir for administration of intrathecal chemotherapy (if trained).
· Knowledge of medical model and roles of physicians and NPPA. Familiar with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
· Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
· Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems and developing care plans.
· Knowledge of documentation in medical records in confidential manner.
· Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data.
· Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referral.
· Skill in developing/revising patient care plan based on patient status.
· Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of NPPA practice.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians on complicated cases.
· Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.
· Ability to demonstrate eye–hand coordination, full range of motion, and manual dexterity.
Position Requirements:
Experience with Oncology patients
Current state license
DEA Certificate
Valid Nurse Practitioner certificate issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
State issued prescribing authority
Current BLS certification
Must be available for full time Mon-Fri schedule
Experience:
Physician Assistant: 2 years (Preferred)
Oncology: 1 year (Required)
Nurse Practitioner: 2 years (Preferred)
Medical Office: 2 years (Required)
License:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) (Preferred)
