It’s HOT out there! Keep Safe!
- Drink more water! Stay away from alcoholic and sugary beverages, they only make you more thirsty.
- Stay in an air conditioned place, if you can. Electric fans can help, but over 90 degrees, they don’t do much. Take a cool shower or bath. Go to the mall or the movies.
- Wear light weight, loose fitting clothes.
- NEVER leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle (that means your pet too!)
- Some people are more at risk from heat-related illness such as elderly people, infants and young children, people with a mental illness, and those who are physically ill (especially people with high blood pressure and heart disease).
- If you have to be outside:
o Limit it to early morning or evening hours
o Cut down on exercise. If you must exercise, drink a sports beverage and water (2 to 4 glasses every hour)
o Rest in shady areas
o Wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses
o Use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. Apply before you go outside, and every 1 to 2 hours.
