Recruiting classes 2037/2039. You don’t gotta get ready if you stay ready

People always ask why I built the gym, I make up stuff about work, low overhead blah blah. Blah

Truth is that I hope someday they want me to train them and their friends. Hopefully I have enough 20 kilo plates for these studs

9 weeks to my next old man amateur jiu jitsu showdown. I love having something on the calendar to give me structure.

From a gym standpoint this means for 6 weeks get strong, stay healthy, experiment with conditioning. Being strong on the mats isn’t the only thing but it’s never a bad thing, and time in the gym keeps me healthy.

3 ish weeks will be solely focused on being more explosive and intense conditioning. Being a non serious athlete now a days I generally touch on all qualities evenly throughout the year. It’s going to be a bit of an experiment to separate things in this way. I’ll also find a way to decimate Michael Bann, MS | Performance Coach in a 5K as part of my easy conditioning

Teaching Ari to never miss a a Monday.

If being athletic as you age is important to you then so athletic things. Run fast jump high regularly. It may not be the fastest or the highest but what im doing will keep the skill sharp and tissues ready.

If you haven’t sprinted or jumped since high school hit me up and let’s figure out where to start

Who wants a playhouse!!!!

No response from my kids so that means we need what will basically be a tiny home.

But how do we rap this back around to selling online fitness? I trained less this week than in any point in the past 3-5 years. I got to coach a friend at the CrossFit games, then immediately turned around to take the kids to see relatives and hang out for the weekend.

When you train consistently year round sometimes a forced break can be a great thing. Deloads usually happen organically in my everyday folks but some of us need a hard reset. More isn’t always better and you don’t have to have a fitness rebound after an off week

Pretty special couple of days getting to watch Misty Ritter do her thing. The handful of events are the tip of the iceberg of the coaching relationship.

Thousands of sessions, meals, recovery activities all the unseen things that went into this is what makes it special

Happy to be along for the ride

Good coaching is usually rooted in the basics applied personally. While I believe deeply in individualization there are a lot of unifying factors that can take you a long way without the need for gimmicks or flashy shenanigans.

We’ve been through multiple ACL surgeries, military assignments and multiple qualification processes. Next up is a scuba goal. I may not be jacque Cousteau but by listening to my client, understanding the problem and the goal I’m sure we will get it done

Having purpose is paramount for any real training plan. Chasing your kids, getting out of pain, leveling up for your sport. All valid, all awesome things AAFY can help you with.

My purpose is to force friendship on Michael Bann, MS. Anyone who knows him knows that my 5K time as posted will easily catch him. And once I run him down the strength provided by these 65 pound pull ups guarantees hes gonna get the hug of a lifetime

Unfortunately I failed at snatching his bodyweight, I’ll have to stay in the gym so I can eventually throw him over my shoulder and carry him off to a merry time

Tweaked my knee on Sunday - so what do we do on Monday? We keep as close to the original training plan S possible

Monday was supposed to be a continued weekly max effort squat but that wasn’t happening. So we did a 10:00 to find an overhand no strap deadlift single. Intensity high knee safe

We also opted for some PT in lieu of regular accessory work. The body is incredibly resilient, there’s a good chance with a lot of injuries you can find a way to marry hard training and intelligent rehab.

Reach out if you need some ideas

We closed on the sale of our previous home this afternoon. One of my long term clients brought me this as a celebration gift (on top of thag I dropped one and she exchanged it for a non dented one)

If you had asked me what I’d be doing at 39 I would have never guessed my current demographic or job style. I honestly would have balked at it as a 26 year old new grad PT

But at the end of the day it’s the interactions like this that remind me what is most important in training and sports medicine.

Relationships - there is no magic bullet treatment or training plan. But when you honestly listen and genuinely care about making a difference for the oerson in front of you things tend to go the right way.

And on top of the universes reminder to keep doing what I’m doing this flavor is honestly top 3 all time fizzy waters

AAFY success story

When we met Ed couldn’t stand 20 minutes in a stationary bike saddle. He just did 30 miles and almost a mile of elevation gain across trail ridge road in Rocky Mountain. National park.

Awesome process to watch unfold and I’m excited to see years of outdoor adventures unfold.
