Kenneth, the best gift you’ve given our daughters is your safe, loving presence as a father.
Considering you didn’t witness that in your own life until you were 13, that speaks volumes about how hard this road has been for you. And it speaks just as loudly to the quality of man you are… that you chose a path of learning and leadership to break a cycle of fatherlessness and build a legacy of safety, value, purpose, and love instead.
It’s felt most in the quiet, ordinary moments between a father and his children. The moments where the old wiring fires first… anger, reactivity, defensiveness. You felt all of it. But you saw early that those hardwired responses were never going to build the future you wanted with your children.
So you did the harder thing. You learned to catch the old reaction, govern your own mind, and stay changeable. You learned to respond with love instead of self-protection. What a humble, unglamorous struggle that has been. But what depth of character and wisdom it has grown in you!
That was a wild decision to make, because you had no model for it. What you saw early on was violence. And still, as a young father, you set out to father well anyway. And then you kept going. Not once, but every day, for 23 years. That’s the part I’m most proud of: not the decision, but the persistence underneath it.
Your daughters are the best gift and teacher God could have given you. And in equal measure, you are one of the best gifts and teachers God could have given them.
Thank you for committing to a life of learning and leading, so that what you leave behind is a pathway of safety, stability, belonging, and love. I’m so proud to walk beside you while you/we do that.
And now, through Vibrant Families’ Legacy Club, you’re extending that same pathway to so many more children in our area!
You’ve broken the cycle.
You don’t have to wonder anymore.
YOU’VE DONE IT. 💪🏼 And done it WELL.
