☀️ Summer break does not always mean medication break.

ADHD “drug holidays” can be helpful for some children — especially if there are concerns about appetite, weight, sleep, or side effects.

But for other children, ADHD symptoms still impact:

Safety

Emotional regulation

Camp

Sports

Therapy

Family routines

Social interactions

A medication holiday should be planned with your child’s prescriber — not started suddenly.

Before stopping or skipping doses, ask:

“Does my child still need support outside of school?”

Because ADHD does not only show up in the classroom. 💙

📌 Save this before summer starts.💬 Comment SUMMER if you want a list of questions to ask your child’s provider.↗️ Share this with another ADHD parent.

Perfecting Peds is happy to share that our partnership with Molina Healthcare in South Carolina has officially started!

Together, we’re helping children and young adults who take multiple medications or have complex health needs get extra support.

Our team works with families, caregivers, doctors, and health plans to make medications easier to understand, safer to manage, and better connected to each child’s care.

We’re grateful for this partnership and excited to support Molina Healthcare families in South Carolina. 💙

Is your child’s medicine still good?

Expiration dates matter: especially for medications your child may need quickly, like inhalers, EpiPens, seizure rescue meds, insulin, glucagon, antibiotics, eye drops, or emergency medications.

A simple safety habit: check your child’s medications every 3 months.

Look for:
✔ Expired medicines
✔ Rescue meds that need refills
✔ Liquids with short “discard after” dates
✔ Meds stored in heat, sunlight, or the bathroom
✔ Missing labels or unclear directions

Do not wait until an asthma flare, allergic reaction, seizure, infection, or emergency to find out a medication is expired.

When in doubt, call your pharmacist.

Small checks today can prevent big problems later.

Sometimes the biggest wins happen behind the scenes 💙
A 14-year-old with ADHD had finally found a medication that worked. He was eating again, sleeping better, and doing well in school.
Then insurance stopped covering it and the cost jumped to $2,800.
His progress started slipping almost immediately.
But our team stepped in and within 2 hours got approval and brought the cost back to $0.
He is now back on the medication that helps him feel like himself again 🙌
No family should have to fight this hard to keep their child on what works. We are here to help make that happen.

Allergy meds are not all the same 🤧
In this week’s Perfect Dose, we’re talking about the difference between older and newer antihistamines. Basically, why some make you super sleepy 😴 and others let you go about your day.
If your child or you take allergy meds, this is definitely worth knowing 💡
The right choice can mean fewer side effects and a much smoother day 🌿

💙 Feel Good Friday 💙
Big shoutout to Izzy Lawson, PharmD!
A patient was still dealing with anxiety—but increasing their medication wasn’t safe. On top of that, they’re also managing obesity, so every treatment choice matters.
Izzy stepped in and recommended a better option:
✨ Safer medication switch
✨ Helps improve anxiety
✨ Weight-neutral—supporting overall health long-term
It’s care like this that makes a difference:
Looking at the whole person, not just one condition.
Way to go, Izzy! 👏🧠💊

Feel Good Friday ✨

A 16-year-old came to us feeling off.

Managing anxiety, ADHD, depression, and OCD on multiple meds, she said:
“I don’t feel like myself. I feel like a zombie.” 💔

So we listened and simplified.

With her care team, we:
💙 Switched her medication to better fit her
💙 Weaned off a stimulant impacting sleep
💙 Helped her come off sleep meds

Now
✨ She feels like herself again
✨ She is sleeping better
✨ She has her energy back

Sometimes better care is not more meds, it is the right ones.

If your child does not feel like themselves, you are not alone.
