🦠 Lyme doesn’t travel alone. This week on Lyme Time, researcher and Lyme + Babesia patient Nikki Schultek shares how her “Lyme plus” story unfolded: a swollen finger joint, air hunger, and 12+ doctors before anyone found the missing piece.
🩸 Babesia: Her symptoms (air hunger, stabbing rib pain, vertigo) were misread as asthma. She only got robust treatment for it last December.
🌀 Borrelia: A spirochete that can reach the brain. Her team’s 2023 study found 86 cases of infectious dementia, including Borrelia cases, and many improved with treatment.
🦠 Chlamydia pneumoniae: Another stealth co-infection that hides in immune cells and has been linked to chronic asthma.
🔬 Standard tests often miss these infections until treatment begins, so co-infection testing matters. Find out which tests to take!
Her advice: find an ILADS-trained physician (or MAPS for kids), because every co-infection needs its own treatment plan.
