The most popular shoe isn’t always the best shoe for you.

For this runner, we recommended the Brooks Launch 11 - a more rigid shoe with a neutral drop that provided better shock absorption and feedback.

Adidas Evo are aggressive shoes & tend to amplify the movement patterns you may already have. Before upgrading, runners need to build the strength and capacity to handle them.

You don’t earn the shoe by buying it. You earn it through training 🙂‍↔️

The most popular shoe isn’t always the best shoe for you & it’s true one shoe does not fit all!

We’ve found this heel design can be tricky for our runners to navigate, especially those who tend to supinate, heel strike, or feel more comfortable with their feet turned out.

If that sounds like you, this shoe might not be your best match.

The shoe is only one piece of the puzzle but it’s an important one to consider since it’s the first thing to hit the ground

Step downs are one of those exercises we come back to again and again during knee rehab and for good reason.

They help your body learn how to properly load the quad and knee while building the control needed for things like walking downhill, slowing down, changing direction, and returning to sport. The eccentric quad strength and negative shin angle trained here are both incredibly important for deceleration and long-term knee resilience.

A lot of times, when the knee feels sensitive, the body will naturally try to avoid loading it. That’s where compensations start to show up.

Here’s a snippet of Dr. Sydney walking through some of the common patterns we see during step downs and how we coach clients through them.

Ever wonder why two people can do the same exercise but feel it in completely different places?

If you took a room of 20 people doing the same movement, chances are each person is using totally different muscle groups — and at different intensities. Our bodies have mastered finding a way to complete a task, even if it’s not the most efficient way.

Rehab is strength training with more attention to detail — teaching your body how to access the right muscles, in the right sequence.

Our job as physical therapists is to take the guessing out of the equation — guiding people toward better movement patterns that actually carry over to how they move and feel in daily life.

This clip shows the second set of the same exercise — feeling completely different once we added verbal and tactile cueing to refine his movement pattern.
