Memory Air The Biggest Improvement in Human Memory Ever Discovered

Memory Air™ from Science Lab 3: Scents to boost cognition 🧠✨

UC Irvine professor Michael Leon (who is also our Chief Scientific Officer), discovered that brain activity and memory improved significantly when exposed to different odors while sleeping — a result of the “direct superhighway” from our olfactory systems to our brains’ memory centers. With guidance and other support from , Leon and his collaborator Alan Bernstein created Memory Air, a device which cycles through 40 different scents nightly, with proven benefits for aging adults and those experiencing cognitive decline.

A new study found that people living within one mile of a golf course had a 126% higher risk of Parkinson’s disease, with researchers pointing to pesticide and herbicide exposure, including possible contamination through local water systems, as a potential factor.

It’s a striking reminder that Parkinson’s isn’t just a movement disorder. It’s the fastest-growing neurological disorder in the world, and for many people, one of the earliest signs appears years before diagnosis: a diminished sense of smell.

That connection is central to our work at Memory Air.

The olfactory system is one of the most direct pathways to the brain, and research continues to show that structured scent exposure may support olfactory function and cognitive health in people with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.

Brain health starts earlier than we think. Sometimes, it starts with smell.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 🧠✨

It’s a moment to recognize the growing impact of dementia and other brain-related conditions, and the urgent need for better prevention, support, and research.

At Memory Air™, we believe the olfactory system deserves a bigger place in that conversation.

Let me ask you a question… how’s your memory? 🧠

And now a follow up… how do you rate your sense of smell? 👃

This is the idea behind Memory Air! There’s a connection between the two.

Get a whiff of that!

Longevity agents may do more than support healthy aging — they may also support your sense of smell.

Emerging research links several well-known longevity interventions (including NAD, taurine, caloric restriction, exercise, hormone replacement therapy, and others) with improvements in olfactory function.

Why does this matter? Because olfaction is not just about smell. It is closely tied to memory, cognition, emotion, and overall brain health.

One possible explanation is that many of these agents support cellular health, repair, and growth — mechanisms that may also benefit the olfactory system.

At , we’re continuing our own novel research while also looking closely at the broader body of existing science. Our goal is to better understand the unique role the olfactory system plays across the mind and body.

Lost your sense of smell? It's still worth “exercising” it.

This image shows brain activity in people with anosmia (the inability to detect smell) before and after olfactory training. The dots represent areas of brain activity.

Smell isn’t just about scent. It’s deeply connected to memory, emotion, and brain health.
