Living with a chronic condition like diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, or chronic pain can affect more than just physical health. It can also take a real toll on mental and emotional wellbeing. Managing symptoms, appointments, medications, and daily responsibilities can sometimes lead to stress, anxiety, burnout, depression, or feelings of isolation.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, it is a reminder to give attention to the connection between chronic illness and mental wellbeing and how deeply they impact one another.
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Making space for rest, leaning on supportive relationships, staying active in ways that feel good, seeking therapy or counseling, and having honest conversations about how you feel can all support balance and healing.
You deserve care that supports both your mind and your body.

May is Healthy Vision Month 👁️✨ A reminder that protecting your eyesight is an important part of your overall health and wellness. Diabetes can affect more than blood sugar it can also impact your vision. High blood sugar levels may damage the tiny blood vessels in the eyes, leading to blurred vision, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and even vision loss if left untreated.
The good news is that early detection and healthy lifestyle habits can help protect your eyesight. Regular eye exams, managing blood sugar, staying active, and prioritizing your health all make a difference.
Your vision matters. Prioritize your eye health today for a healthier tomorrow.

Excited to share our new paper published yesterday in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition examining how infant formula carbohydrate source influences early glucose regulation.

Using continuous glucose monitoring in infants, we found that breastfed babies and babies fed lactose-based formula maintained a very stable blood glucose level throughout the day.

However, babies fed formulas containing corn syrup solids had much greater glycemic variability, including a subgroup of infants with particularly unstable glucose patterns with multiple daily spikes and crashes.

Importantly, these findings build on our prior work linking corn syrup–based formulas with increased obesity risk in early childhood and contribute to ongoing national discussions around infant formula composition and FDA modernization efforts through Operation Stork Speed.

This work highlights the importance of understanding not just how much infants eat — but how different nutrients may shape early metabolic development.

Grateful to the brave babies for wearing the monitors and the mums and dads who agreed to participate, and also to our incredible research team who collected and analyzed this data.

Screen time is part of modern childhood—but balance matters.
Keeping Kids Mental Health Awareness in mind , it’s important to recognize how excessive screen use can impact developing minds. Too much screen time has been linked to increased anxiety, disrupted sleep, difficulty focusing, and less physical activity—all of which play a role in a child’s overall well-being.
This doesn’t mean screens are “bad”—it means we need to be intentional. Creating boundaries, encouraging offline play, and prioritizing real-life connection can help support healthier habits and stronger mental health.
Small, consistent changes at home can make a lasting difference.
Because when we protect their time, we protect their minds. 💛

Children’s Mental Health Week is a reminder that what children experience early in life can shape their mental, emotional, and physical well-being for years to come.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are more common than many realize, and their impact can show up in how children think, feel, and behave. But with awareness, support, and safe environments, healing is possible.

One of the most powerful things we can do is shift from asking “What’s wrong?” to “What has this child experienced?” and respond with compassion, patience, and support.

💚 **Helpful Resource:** Brightlife Kids
If you’re in California, this app offers **free mental health support for kids and teens**, including coaching, resources, and tools for families. It’s an incredible step toward making care more accessible.

Let’s continue to create spaces where children feel safe, seen, and supported.

Chronic disease doesn’t start at diagnosis—it starts with what we see, learn, and experience every day.
Our latest findings highlight how students, parents, and school staff view nutrition and chronic disease in school settings. From awareness of diet-related health risks to the realities of school meals and the impact of home environments, three key themes emerged:

• Perceptions of chronic disease
• School-based nutrition
• External influences

While awareness is growing, gaps still exist between knowledge, access, and daily choices. Bridging that gap takes more than education—it takes collaboration between schools, families, and communities.

Swipe through to explore the key insights and what they mean for creating healthier futures.

Chronic disease doesn’t begin at diagnosis it starts much earlier, shaped by the environments we grow up in.
Through conversations with students, parents, and school staff, we listened to real experiences around food, health, and daily habits in school settings. What we heard is helping us build culturally relevant, community driven solutions that support healthier futures.
Because meaningful change starts with listening.
