This year, my time in Japan was the absolute highlight; a place where food and culture are deeply intertwined and treated with true respect. The philosophy of ā€œfood is life, ā€œeat until 80% full,ā€ and ā€œhealth is the greatest wealthā€ wasn’t just something I observed; it was something I lived. As a dietitian, it reinforced my belief that health touches every aspect of life. How we eat, think, move, and connect. Japan was a powerful reminder that wellness isn’t about restriction, but intention, balance, and gratitude. May the year ahead be one rooted in health, nourishment, and longevity for us all. Did you know that eating enough fiber can help lower your risk of colon cancer? 🧬🄦

Fiber supports gut health by improving transit time and promoting beneficial bacteria that produce protective compounds like butyrate. Yet, most people consume only ~15g/day, which is half the recommended amount.

Research shows:
• High fiber intake is linked to a 26% lower risk of colon cancer (Aune et al., 2011 (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21930892/)).
• Greater fiber consumption may reduce distal colon cancer risk by up to 38% (Park et al., 2016 (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26269366/)).
• Whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables are key sources of protective fiber.

Small shifts in your diet can lead to significant long-term benefits. Make fiber consumption a top priority in your daily routine. 🌿

As the year ends, reflect on what made all your experiences possible.Ā One of the most important contributors to it is being in good health. Waking up, going to work/school, spending time with loved ones, traveling, and having experiences would not be possible without optimal health.Ā Setting health goals is always my top priority for the new year. Think of what you want to achieve this upcoming year regarding your health. Make the goals realistic and achievable, then break your goals into small actions and build on them. Every little change counts. Prioritizing your health is the highest form of self-love, and you should never neglect that part of your life because nothing else is possible without it. ā¤ļø
