Healing isn’t apathy.
It’s no longer abandoning yourself.
You stop explaining yourself endlessly.
You stop trying to convince people who have already decided who you are.
You stop performing your pain in the hope that someone will finally understand.
And that doesn’t mean you don’t care.
It means you finally care about yourself, too.
For the scapegoat, healing can feel uncomfortable at first because you were conditioned to believe that keeping the peace, proving your innocence, and being understood were your responsibility.
They weren’t.
Sometimes healing sounds like:
“I don’t need you to understand me for me to know what’s true for me.”
