Starbucks is serving up new protein drinks! ☕️ 💪

You can choose from specialty protein lattes or add protein cold foam or protein-boosted milk to your typical order.

Seems like a promising boost to your morning routine, doesn’t it?

👉👉Here are my thoughts on the pros and cons and whether these protein drinks should be a part of your regular routine.

The egg shortage means we’re all looking for substitutes for baking, scrambles and more. Thanks for chatting with me about the healthiest egg alternatives and how to use them in recipes. Check out my stories for the link to the article!

Some of my faves:

-For baking, mashed banana, applesauce, mashed avocado, pureed pumpkin, pureed sweet potato or silken tofu help bind the ingredients together and add moisture. Just add 1/4 cup to replace 1 large egg in a recipe. Some of these ingredients can alter the flavor, so choose wisely!

-Also love ground flax seeds or whole chia seeds to replace eggs in my baked goods as a binder to get more filling fiber into my recipes. Mix 1 Tbsp ground flax seeds or chia seeds with 3 Tbsp water and let sit for 5 minutes. This will form a gel that you can then add to your wet ingredients. These options work well in recipes for quickbreads such as pancakes, muffins and zucchini bread.

-In recipes like burgers or meatballs, I’ll use oats, cooked rice or breadcrumbs with a bit of water. You can also sub in mashed sweet potato or mashed potato or squash to help it bind and add some moisture.

-Aquafaba (the water left over from cooking chickpeas or other beans) works well as a binder in baked goods or vegan mayo. You can even use it replace egg whites in recipes like meringue and macaroons.

Tens of thousands of people in the LA area have left their homes and businesses behind due to the devastating spread of multiple wildfires. We can all help!

The Washington Post has a wonderful article linking to organizations that are providing aid such as food, shelter, medical supplies and firefighting supplies.

The American Red Cross and The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation (among others) are accepting donations now (go directly to their sites to avoid any scams).

Jenn knows what’s good 👏 👏 👏
She told Today, “I do 80/20. I give myself days where I can have whatever I want. I don’t deprive myself.”

The 80/20 rule works because it’s sustainable. Choose nutrient-dense foods most of the time and give yourself a bit of wiggle room for any less nutritious foods you love.

Like this post if you follow the 80/20 way!

Not sure what that would look like for you? I’ve helped thousands of clients by creating their personalized 80/20 meal plan together. Reach out if you’re interested in doing that 🥰. I’m here for you!

Many of my clients come to me for help because they want to lose weight but every time they try to eat less, they feel weak and shaky. They’re often dealing with reactive hypoglycemia.

(In people with diabetes, reactive hypoglycemia can be caused by insulin or other medicines that lower blood sugar levels.) For people who don’t have diabetes, low blood sugars after eating likely could be caused by what you’re eating and when (it’s also important to rule out medical causes of low blood sugars).

Here are some of the best ways to fix reactive hypoglycemia:

1. Stop undereating. 🛑

🚩This is super common, especially for women. Not sure how much food you need to fuel your body, prevent low blood sugars, feel your best AND promote fat loss? 🌟Message me about working together!

2. Eat protein, fat and fiber at every meal and snack.

3. Eat smaller meals more often.

4. Manage stress. 🧘‍♀️

Did you know your Thanksgiving favorites are loaded with nutrients? More reasons to enjoy today 💗

Turkey 🦃
A 3 oz portion of cooked turkey (the size of a deck of cards) has 24 g of muscle-building protein. Protein can also help you feel more satisfied and stabilize blood sugar levels to help you manage your weight.

Turkey is an excellent source of energizing B vitamins niacin, B6 and B12. And it’s high in selenium, a mineral that acts as an antioxidant and can help boost your immune system. Turkey is an excellent source of phosphorus for healthy bones and teeth.

Green beans are a good source of vitamin C which your body needs to make collagen for beautiful skin and a healthy heart.

Potatoes🥔
Half a cup of mashed potatoes has 1.5 grams of fiber which can help slow down your body’s absorption of starch, their main type of carbohydrate. The fat that’s added to the mashed potatoes, whether it’s butter or sour cream, actually helps lower blood sugar spikes from the potatoes. The fiber and fat will also help you stay full longer.

Potatoes are rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that can help protect and repair your cells from free radical damage from aging and pollution.
And they’re an excellent source of potassium, an electrolyte that supports heart health and can help lower blood pressure.

Pumpkin 🎃 and squash
One cup of canned pumpkin has a whopping 7 grams of fiber to support healthy digestion. It also has a generous amount of beta carotene for healthy eyes and to help your body fight off illnesses - especially helpful during cold and flu season. Pumpkin is an excellent source of vitamin K which helps with blood clotting and bone health and copper which is needed for energy production.

Cranberry
Cranberries contain phytochemicals that may help lower inflammation and reduce your risk of heart disease.

The latest TikTok diet trend: “oatzempic” is blending oats, water and lime juice to lose weight. Here’s what I told about it…

The name may get people’s attention but that’s where the cleverness ends. 😬

The idea that drinking oats blended with lime juice and water can help you lose weight is ridiculous.

If you’re replacing a meal with anything that’s lower in calories, the math says you’ll lose weight. But you’ll also be setting yourself up to feel hungry by skipping protein in the morning. 😵‍💫🪫

This tends to lead to overeating later in the day and doesn’t support what you really want for a healthy metabolism - maintaining and increasing lean muscle mass. 💪

I call these TikTok diet trends TikTok-zic. People with zero understanding of nutrition and physiology bombarding everyone with “hacks” and “tricks” that set you up for failure and frustration. They’ve made diet culture even more toxic because everyone has a platform to spread misinformation. 🗣️

The next time you see something touted as “the new ozempic” keep scrolling! Guaranteed it’s bogus. ⛔️
