Understanding mechanics is enough to stop a controversy before it even starts.
I watched Khamzat weigh in video several times.
Yes, the weight was called before the beam fully settled. But looking at the scale, the beam does not drop downward. If anything, it moves upward.
On a mechanical beam scale, that means the athlete is lighter than the weight set on the scale.
So if the scale was set at 185 lb, the real question is whether Khamzat was exactly 185 or slightly under.
Not over.
Happy to discuss respectfully with anyone who disagrees.

Someone’s hair must go.

, who’s going to be in Strickland’s corner as his jiu-jitsu coach, played a crucial role in my move to America, hosting me for the first four months I lived in the U.S.

This weekend, we’re going to be opponents.

So we decided to spice things up with a bet: whoever loses has to shave either my head or his mustache, to fully display the Chechen look.

Who do you think is going to take it home?

Every detail matters.

A waffle with honey on top can go a long way in fueling a practice.

Less than one day to weigh ins.

We are getting really close to official weigh ins.

As we mentioned yesterday, carbohydrate intake becomes lower and more strategic at this stage.

This is what Khamzat is eating 48 hours out, as we prepare for the final phase of the weight cut.

These are some of the numbers from the last 30 days of camp with Khamzat Chimaev before fight week.
Important context: It is not the full diet, and it is not meant to be copied as a meal plan.

What stood out to me looking back at these numbers was:
- lamb, I have never cooked this much lamb, this many times, in a single camp. But for Khamzat, it is part of his food culture, part of the diet of the Caucasus mountains, and it fits his preferences extremely well.
- On the opposite side, pasta was a record low for me. I do not think I have ever cooked so little pasta in a camp. Most of the carbohydrate work came from rice and potatoes, mainly regular potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Every time a nutrition protocol from an elite athlete goes viral, people feel the need to copy it.
This time it’s Cristiano Ronaldo’s diet, based on a recent interview given by his former chef during his Juventus years.

Important context: this was not a scientific publication, but an informal interview from someone with strong culinary expertise, not a formal background in nutrition science.
I took the main claims circulating online and reviewed them from a scientific perspective, trying to give you a clearer direction.

The goal is to separate what is evidence-based from what is anecdotal, and to remind you that elite performance is always multifactorial and highly individualized.

Less than three weeks out from a title defense, and this how we are currently hitting our caloric/macros goals.
At this stage, the objective is not just to fuel performance, but to manage body weight.
Unfortunately, performance nutrition is often reduced to chicken, broccoli and rice, in many cases suboptimal from an adherence standpoint.
Bridging the gap between the culinary world and performance nutrition is not just aesthetic, has repercussions on performance and recovery.
