Last week I found myself deep in the woods at , on the coast of Big Sur, learning about erotic ecology with the wonderful . I didn’t really know why I was drawn. Just a pull. And I have been trying to lean into the practice of listening to my body’s yes before my mind has the language for it.

What unfolded last week was expansive and nourishing in ways that are still landing.

The thing that stood out most was how our relationship with our own bodies heals nature, and our relationship with nature heals us back. These aren’t two separate projects. They’re the same one. And both ask the same thing of us: slow down, and listen to the small voices we’ve been conditioned to ignore.

We didn’t just learn this. We got to embody it, practice it, play in it. And like any good medicine, it’s still working through me in ways I don’t fully have words for yet.

If any of this is landing for you, start with Lindsay’s book, Heartwood. She has completely changed the way I see the living world around me. Couldn’t recommend it more. 🌿

Raise your hand if you’ve ever walked out of a doctor’s appointment with a clean bill of health — and absolutely no explanation for why you feel like garbage. 🙋‍♀️

I’ve been that person. Sitting in the waiting room, running through my symptoms, convinced something was wrong. And then: your labs look fine.

The thing is, conventional medicine is designed to catch disease. Full-blown, diagnosable, textbook disease.

But most of the women I work with aren’t sick in that way — they’re just nowhere near well. And that gap? That space between “sick” and “thriving”? Nobody’s looking there.

So they keep going. Tired after eight hours of sleep. Crashing every afternoon. Bloated after meals they’ve eaten a hundred times. Moods that don’t feel like theirs. A brain fog that no amount of coffee touches.

None of it shows up on a blood panel. All of it means something.

That’s what I do — I look where the system doesn’t.
If this sounds like your life right now, save this and send it to a friend who’s been told she’s fine one too many times.

This weekend I attended the Women’s Longevity Conference, and I left more energized and more convicted about this work than ever.

One thing that was unmistakably clear in that room:

Women have been chronically underrepresented in medical research for decades. And for too long, that was used as an excuse - by institutions, by practitioners, by the system itself - for not having answers, not doing the work, not taking women’s symptoms seriously.

That era is over.

The women in that room - researchers, clinicians, advocates, patients - are making sure of it. And the millennial and Gen X women I work with every day are leading that charge in their own lives. Showing up to appointments prepared. Seeking out functional medicine. Asking WHY their body is struggling, not just WHAT to take for it.

That’s not being difficult. That’s being your own best advocate.

If you’ve ever been told your labs are normal when you knew something was wrong… your instincts were right. Your symptoms are real. You deserve better answers.

Thank you to the Women’s Longevity Conference for creating a room where women’s health is treated with the urgency it deserves. 💛

This is one of the cringiest things I overhear →
because people are genuinely going on juice-only “detoxes” without realizing it’s not actually helping their body detox.

Let’s break this down.

I hear a lot of people in the “science-based” world say detoxing isn’t real. And that’s not true, either. Your body is constantly detoxifying.

Your liver, gut, kidneys, skin, and lungs all work together to process and eliminate toxins — effective detox support is about supporting these systems, not bypassing them.

And this is where juice cleanses miss the mark.

Because they often don’t actually support detox… and in some cases, can work against it.

Here’s why:
• No fiber → which you need for regular bowel movements (and yes, pooping regularly is a key part of detox)
• When digestion slows down, toxins can get reabsorbed and sent back to the liver instead of being eliminated

• Very low protein → which your liver needs to carry out detoxification pathways
So you’re removing key inputs your body relies on… while expecting it to “detox better”

FOR THE RECORD — I’m not against juicing.

Juices can be a great way to increase micronutrients and support the body when used appropriately.

But a juice cleanse is not a shortcut to detoxification.

If anything, only drinking juice removes the very things your body needs to do that job well.

Real detox support looks like:
* supporting digestion
* eating enough protein
* getting fiber

and working *with* your body — not overriding it

...without relying on supplements.

Because it almost always comes back to the foundations before the fancy protocols.

Most people don’t need more information. They need more consistency with what actually moves the needle.

Here’s where I’d start:

1. Stop grazing and eat real meals —
Space meals 3–4 hours apart to activate the migrating motor complex
(your gut’s built-in “cleaning crew” that sweeps out leftover food and bacteria)

2. Slow down while eating —
Chew your food and put your fork down between bites.
Digestion starts in your mouth — the better you break food down, the easier it is for your gut.

3. Pay attention to how you hold tension —
Jaw clenched? Shoulders tight?
Your body is constantly signaling your nervous system — and your gut responds to that.
You may be stressing your gut without realizing it

4. Spend more time outside —
Nature contains negative ions that regulate your stress response (which directly impacts digestion)
And yes, your environment can influence your microbiome, too!

5. Eat a wide variety of plants —
Prebiotic fibers feed beneficial gut bacteria
This often matters more for long-term gut health than probiotics

6. Hydrate well —
If you’re dehydrated, digestion slows down
(which causes constipation and straining —> leading to more imbalance)

7. Practice deep breathing —
One of the fastest ways to shift out of fight-or-flight, which improves blood flow to your gut to optimize digestion.
Try making your exhales longer than your inhales

8. Avoid using too much antibacterial soaps and sanitizers —
Your microbiome benefits from appropriate exposure and too much sanitizing can disrupt that balance

9. Start cooking more —
When you cook for yourself, you naturally eat more whole, nutrient-dense foods.
And also a cool side benefit of cooking - is that when fragrances of fresh food cooking can stimulate enzyme production

None of this is flashy.

But this is the work that creates real, lasting change.

Gut healing isn’t about doing more - but it’s about doing the right things, consistently.

Which one would you start with? 🫶

Let me know if you figured it out 👀

Our medical system loves a miracle pill — but having helped many people heal their gut and find sustainable relief, food is always foundational.

Not in a restrictive, perfectionist, diet-culture-y kind of way —
but in a your body actually needs information and nourishment to heal kind of way.

If something is irritating your gut, it needs to go. (You can’t heal a scab if you’re constantly picking at it.)

You can take all the supplements, try all the protocols, do all the things…
but if your gut is constantly inflamed and not receiving essential nutrients, you’ll keep hitting a wall.

And at the same time it’s not just about what you eat, but it’s also
how you eat ...
your nervous system.
your nutritional status.
your ability to produce digestive factors like enzymes.
your consistency over time.

This is where people get stuck — swinging between extremes
instead of really taking the time to understand their bodies and build something sustainable.

Healing your gut isn’t about chasing the next quick fix.
It’s about learning how to work with your body.

And yes… that includes your diet.
