Jenarate Art- Jena Priebe I like to make art. Thus I see things as usable and I upcycle them. I enjoy their potential. Three-dimensional art is what I enjoy most.

I'm very inspired by artists Alice Aycock, who broke down so many barriers for women sculptors, Jules Verne for his never ending imagination and Joseph Cornell for his magical Assemblage and infinitely well organized artist materials. I grew up in a very rural part of Michigan on a farm where nothing was ever thrown away and we often coveted old found objects for further use. I often work with a j

uxtaposition of organic (paper, leather, textile) and mechanical or industrial elements (Steel,computer innards, gears, rocketry parts). These elements combined speak volumes about times past, present and future. Especially still action installation work, sculpture and assemblage. I feel it is what defines me as a women. My exterior is soft and malleable but my will and passion strong like steel.

Soundwave is a piece that lives in Detroit. It was developed by saying the training centers name who commissioned it into a computer program which spit out the corresponding sound wave image. I then took that image and crafted a physical representation of it with vintage folding wooden rulers and made the wave on the wall. It is playful and relevant without being obvious, which I just absolutely love.

The most beautiful part of this particular piece of artwork is the precise math that went into building it. The hammers are in an almost kinetic motion and each are exactly in sync measurement wise. Above, below, to each side and each angle, they are perfect. Mortised into each handle is custom steel hanging tabs that were made especially for each hammer. The piece is unassuming and mathematical perfection and my brain is equal parts still in pain from the insane process of developing it and the total golden ratio perfectness.

When putting these huge installations together that can take months at a time or even many visits throughout a whole year, it takes a whole team, not just me. Often, you’re working long 12-14 hour days together for weeks straight. Working as a team is what brings these pieces alive and I am so grateful to have found the core members of my team. We work so well together and I’m forever grateful that they are able to help bring the vision to fruition. These cuties keep things fun, have an insane set of skills and are forever supporting me in my artistic endeavors.
