I’ve been making my own yogurt for years and it’s so easy to do. I first started making it after reading a book by a well-respected Ayurvedic doctor who tested the levels of live active cultures in some of the best brands of yogurt. To her surprise, most were minimal in the number of live active cultures.
There are other reasons to make your own yogurt that’s consumed within a few days after its preparation. Older, store-bought yogurt can become too sour, heavy and can clog the body’s channels. Fresh yogurt, however, is lighter on the digestion and less clogging. You can pick your source for active cultures and your dairy source. I make my yogurt with raw, organic milk. Organic A2 milk is also a good choice. I’ve never made non-dairy yogurt, but you can do that also! I use Natren and I love it. You can also start a good batch with cultures that you like and then continue using that yogurt to make your fresh new batch.
Fresh yogurt is considered saatvic, supporting calmness and peace of mind. Don’t we all want that?
I know we’re all so busy, but this one is worth carving out a little time. I use my very old yogurt maker that I found in a yard sale maybe 20 years ago. You can also use an Instapot to make your own yogurt.
