While you're relaxing on this Labor Day weekend, take a few minutes to check out all the valuable trainings and events at Lanterman’s Koch-Young Resource Center - both online and in-person, including trainings on preparation, and ; as well as two - Music and Movement and Baby Signs - and a fall storytime; and workshops on potty time and using positive reinforcement effectively at home, along with monthly meetings. LANTERMAN 60 FOR 60 ~ HIGHLIGHT 44 OF 60 - Services, Supports and Resources

Nearing the end of high school is one of the most challenging and important transitions a student will face — deciding whether to pursue college, work or trade school can feel overwhelming for any young adult. For students served by the regional center, the path can look a little different, but it doesn't have to be less clear. Knowing what supports are available, both through vendored service providers and other community resources, can give you an advantage in achieving your desired outcomes and shaping the life you want to live, work and belong in.

Lanterman Regional Center offers a variety of supports for students transitioning out of high school, including:

🔹 Employment Services – Every adult has the right to seek and hold a job, regardless of ability.
🔹 Adult Day Services – Community-based programs offering a meaningful daily routine.
🔹 Coordinated Family Support (CFS) – Flexible services for adults 18+ choosing to live in their family home.
🔹 Living Options/Housing Supports – Guidance to help you make informed choices about where you live.
🔹 Independent & Supported Living Services (ILS/SLS) – Training and support towards living independently.
🔹 Social & Recreational Activities – Opportunities for real community connection.
🔹 Additional Supports – Advocacy, Assistive Technology, Behavioral Services, CalABLE, Crisis Support, Parenting Skills, Transportation and more.

LANTERMAN 60 FOR 60 ~ HIGHLIGHT 43 OF 60 - Services, Supports and Resources

For this “60 Highlights for 60 Years,” we're spotlighting a resource to help families navigate the transition from school-age to adult services.

Lanterman Regional Center is dedicated to helping you make informed decisions about your life goals and your future as an adult. We know this transition can feel overwhelming — our goal is to help you feel prepared and confident stepping into adult life as an active member of your community.

To support you through this process, Lanterman is hosting a two-part Zoom Conference on preparing for the transition from High School to Adult Services. This year the sessions will be held on the third Thursday of September and October.

📌 Session 1 — Thursday, September 17
Marjan Kermani from Lanterman's Special Education Law Clinic will discuss the Individualized Transition Plan (ITP) and how to build a meaningful transition plan from high school. She'll be joined by representatives from LA Unified, Burbank Unified, Glendale Unified, and Pasadena Unified School Districts, who will share the transition programs available through their districts.

📌 Session 2 — Thursday, October 15
Cynthia Waterson from Waterson and Huth Law Firm will present on Alternatives to Conservatorship and Supported Decision Making. Rhiannon Maycumber and Katy Granados, Lanterman's Assistant Directors of Adult Services, will also join to share the range of adult services available to support individuals in living meaningful, productive and independent lives.

Sessions will be presented in English. Interpretation is available upon request.

Join Lanterman’s Koch-Young Resource Center and Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, Inc. - GLAD for a free eight-week virtual course and learn American Sign Language on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., starting September 21, 2026 through November 9, 2026.

Complimentary for individuals (and their families) served by Lanterman Regional Center, the course is designed to provide ASL basics to people who want to learn some sign, but not enough to be as fluent as interpreters.
